I have ~ 500 CDs and yes I have ripped many to FLAC and play those via Roon. But I also enjoy taking one out every once in a while and playing it via my CD transport/DAC. They used to be stored/displayed in those vertical Ikea bookcasey CD towers called Benno … but the Bennos were ugly and they are gone. Does anyone have any specific recommendations for how to store these and achieve the following: (1) not ugly (2) reasonably easily accessible for playing a CD? I have several Kallax units I could repurpose but their squares are too big to fill with CDs and I don’t see any CD inserts on the web. Thanks!
Search this forum for cd storage and you might find something. There are a ton of threads.
I had two of those. I got a second one when I filled the first, then filled the second. Now they’re gone, not because they were ugly - I actually liked them - but because now I have no use for CDs after ripping.
Do the jewel cases/booklets mean anything to you?
If so, then a typical media shelving units might still be the best bet. I have a collection of approx. 1600 CDs all now ripped to FLAC of course) stored in 4 wood shelving units, taking up quite a bit of room. Not the most attractive but these sit out of the way in my basement office. I’m considering ditching all the cases/sleeves and just store the discs in padded portable storage cases.
Still like to listen to a CD every once in a while as well.
