Due to the update of the OS to Sonoma in my McBook Pro, I had a lot of problems with my computer. After a week of dealing with Apple Support representatives, they didn´t find other way to solve my issues that to create a new user in the same computer.
I am trying to use Roon with this new user, but when I try to upload my backup (made from my former user) I receive the message: “Error loading folder. Unauthorized”.
Have some of you faced a similar problem or know how to solve it?
Thanks.

is your Macbook Pro running the Roon server or only the remote client? Pls. add some info about the setup of your system.
Excuse me for the lack of information. I use the MacBook Pro as core server. I have my music library stored in an external drive. Apparently what I should need it is only to switch off my former user but when I try to set up the Roon app in the new user I have to unauthorized the former server (what has the name of my computer). Then, when I try to upload the backup is when I receive the error message.
Just to be clear, you are restoring the backup to a server logged in with the same account? I ask because you cannot restore a backup between different accounts.
I don’t understand - did you un-authorize the former server or not?
If not, try again, this time un-authorize the old, and authorize the new one (even if it’s on the same computer).
Yes. In the Roon set up process with the new computer user I receive the message that I am already signed in, and the only way of going on with it is unauthorized the device where my Roon core is (my only computer). When I do so, I can initialize Roon, but when I try to install my backup is when I receive the message that the folder is unauthorized.
I suspect that the error message is telling you that you (using your new Mac user account) do not have permission to access the backup folder that was created in your old Mac user account with your old user credentials.
I’m not a Mac user - hopefully someone in the Community will be able to tell you how to resolve this.
You just need to move the backup folder to a common area (I’m not a mac user either) accessible from all the users.
Same goes for the Library folders (if they are also under your previous Mac User folder)

strange - Apple support should have warned you for this; a new user does not get access automatically, even with administrator rights; nor does an app like Roon.
Changing the file location might help, but do check the file info -esp. the access rights. Change if necessary; eg if the olduser is still mentioned there. Make them publicly available.
there is great support from Apple on the net about the subject of accessing folders and files.
Apple people was attentive to my request my not really familiar with the solution. Indeed, they didn´t find a real solution about why for the only update to Sonoma I had so many problems (I made here the story sort).
Now I think is more a problem with Roon that with Apple. I deleted the Roon app. in my former user and download again in the new user.
Every time I try to configure the storage (what is in a external hdd) Roon tells: “Error loading folder. Unauthorized”.
I have no problems in reading, writing of deleting files in that drive from the O. S.

Operating System? I sounds like Roon is not having the proper rights to the files.
Can you enter the back up files from within Roon?
Settings-Backups-Find Backups-Browse now select a folder containing backup files and see what Roon can find.
I start to believe that the files are rendered useless from within Roon because of the different user. But maybe there is a way to make this happening…
I copied the backup to the internal hard disk and I have been able to recover it. But when I try to access to the external HDD where my music files are, Roon do not see them properly.

my next idea: do a forced rescan on the music folders. When that doesn’t help maybe add the same music folders to the storage locations in settings they will be linked to your new user account. If that works, you can remove the old ones and then make a new backup. But someone from support must confirm this last step…
It is clearly a problem with the configuration of Roon in my MacBook. I have deleted all the archives of Roon in both my users in the MacBook and I have reinstalled again. And setting up my audio devices I got:
I cannot delete my own computer as a remote node. So I am guessing the problems arise due to the fact that I have my computer as node as a server ? Really a nightmare.

Which version of Roon is installed? if 2.0 build 1352; your server and client must be separeted
What is the problem with the audio devices? They aren’t working?
