Hi @Thomas_Seidler,
Thanks for the careful test notes with timestamps.
First, a clarification on what DSM is telling you: 20220216 and 221117 are dates on the installer packages, not Roon versions. The Synology .spk is only a launcher, it downloads Roon Server from our servers and Roon’s own self-updater keeps it current from there. Your server really is on 2.71 build 1683; DSM is just comparing two installer dates and blocking what it reads as a downgrade. There’s no in-place upgrade between those two packages.
As @connor mentioned, the community-maintained Synology package has been retired. Since the end of April 2026, the supported way to run Roon Server on a NAS is our official Docker image, and your DS923+ on DSM 7.4.1 is a good fit (x86-64, Container Manager). That’s also the cleanest route onto build 1686.
Recommended path
- Back up first. Settings → Backups, to a location outside the RoonServer shared folder. Keep this backup.
- Note your current storage paths (Settings → Storage). You’ll need them after the restore.
- Stop the old RoonServer package in Package Center so two servers never compete for the same database and zones. Leave the
RoonServershared folder alone, nothing is deleted. - Follow Installing Roon Server on Synology with Docker. In the configuration generator, select Synology and choose the Early Access branch, that puts you straight onto 2.73 build 1686. (On the legacy Docker app instead, add the environment variable
ROON_INSTALL_BRANCH=earlyaccess.) - Pre-create the host folders in File Station, double-check your volume number, and keep host networking. Cast discovery relies on multicast, so that setting isn’t optional for your case.
- On first start, choose Restore from backup.
- Afterwards, in Settings → Storage, edit the existing folder to its new in-container path (
/Musicby default) rather than adding it as a new one. Adding a new folder re-imports your library and loses edits and play history.
Then repeat your controlled test on the Loewe klang group and let us know what the delay looks like. ![]()
