I have a chrome cast ultra connected to my wifi network, if I go in to the display settings in Roon the chromecast device shows up about 20 times, it’s as though it is picking it up as a new device each time it scans the network.
I’ve been running my Roon core on a Windows 10 NUC for around 10 months and have only had this happen once or twice. In my case rebooting my core system solved the problem.
I’m pretty sure they are aware of this but have not put out a fix yet.
I had this issue also with my ChromeCasts (2 x audio, 1 x ultra) and it was very weird. Some had more entries than others and active ones weren’t always visible from all remotes.
At least for me, it’s completely gone now since a week or so. Sadly I can’t tell what’s made the difference, because updates rush in every day (OS on core machine, OS of remotes, firmware updates of network equipment and so on and on …).
PS: I set all my ChromeCasts to use the beta firmware program but despite the fact that Google stated to announce beta firmware upgrades to the users (so they can test and report errors) on registration, I never ever got any information about updates from Google. So maybe or maybe not a ChromeCast firmware update is the reason my problems are gone.
Ah, sorry. I was talking about the Audio section. Didn’t realize that the question was about the Display section. I haven’t looked into the display section since the initial setup of my CC ultra, so I can’t comment on that.
Thank you for your inquiry here. As Slim mentioned this is an issue we are aware of and investigating with the QA team. I have added your case to the investigation but can you please provide some more information regarding your setup here?
What is your router model/manufacturer?
How are your Chromecasts connected to the network, are you using any switches/range extenders?
Are you making use of the Chromecasts on WiFi or do you have the Ethernet adapter?
My router is an Asus RT-N66U which is cat 5 cabled to apple AirPort Extremes as nodes, the chrome cast is connected over wifi.
I restarted my NUC last night (by which time it showed about 40 times) and only one chrome cast showed immediately after the restart, but by this morning it is already showing about 10 times.
Doesn’t really make a difference to operation as far as I can tell, and it is fine under the audio section, but I wonder if my nuc is using up unnecessary resources scanning in this way?
I spoke to QA regarding this issue again and they have noted that this is generally caused by network instability somewhere along the line.
If you like, we can try to narrow this down even further by simplifying the network and eliminating the Airport Extremes from the equation, you can do this by temporarily disconnecting them and seeing if the same behavior occurs when the Chromecasts are connected directly to the Asus router.
I would not worry too much as this shouldn’t take up any unnecessary resources, it is just something causing the discovery process to detect them multiple times. One other thing to try here would be to set reserved IP addresses for the Chromecast in your router settings, as this may help as well.
