Let me explain a bit more. I have an NAD M17v2 processor and a Marantz C40 AVR. Both are Roon Ready and are connected into my network via wifi. I have a 5.1 Steven Wilson album FLAC file on my NAS. When played back through either device, i only get 2.0. As I read the FAQ, do I have to have a laptop connected via HDMI to these devices to get 5.1? I do not see the multichannel setup options when clicking through device setup. Please advise.
Alex and Mike, Thanks for your responses. Much appreciated. I have my Roon server running on a Dell XPS tower in an upstairs office room with my music library located on an NAS. To get the server located next to either the NAD or Marantz, I would have to redesign my networked system. What I will try is directly connecting a Dell laptop to NAD via HDMI and see what happens. Once again, thanks for your responses.
I’m not sure about this but you might be able to use the Roon Bridge software running on that Dell laptop to get the HDMI multi-channel working. Could be worth looking into.
Well, I had an unsuccessful experiment for 5.1. Was able to get 2.0 24/96 playback. I had the same experience with JRiver 33. Going through my TVs over eARC to my processor was limited to 2.0 48. I do not know if an algorithm was running in the background but I got an offer from Roon as a lifetime license owner for Nucleus Ones and Tritions. Given the sale and my current desire to digitize as much of my multi-channel music and concert music, I think that I will be ordering a Nucleus One to provide hi-res, multichannel music as well as moving my license from my Dell tower to this server. Happy Holidays!
