Cocktail x45 + atoll dac 200 signature [DSD]

Yes, you are correct. ATOLL don’t have any Roon Tested DACs.

But note, this isn’t a matter of Roon using DoP instead of native DSD. It is converting DSD to PCM.

The capabilities are for the DAC not the streamer. But it is odd that DSD strategy isn’t reported.

As a test, I’d connect the DAC the core direct, and see if this information is picked up in Roon.

You usually can’t have both, Volume control and DSD plaback (no matter if native or DoP), at the same time. DSD Playback via streamer to a connected DAC normally requires bit-perfect playback (volume control breaks that). When I look at the behavior of my Roon Ready Poly streamer, if I enable DSD playback on it, volume control gets disabled and if I activate volume control, then I lose the DSD playback capability in Roon.
Device settings in Roon are usually derived from what gets reported to Roon. So DAC’s compatibilities reported to and then altered by the streamer according to its settings.

Note: Streamers usually don’t have any way to implement a volume control for DSD. The OP’s device settings in Roon clearly show that he has volume control active and we don’t know what his settings in the streamer are regarding DSD and volume control in general nor do we know their implementation details and implications for its RAAT interaction with Roon.

You can with hardware volume, and I am assuming that is set from the screenshot.

Interestingly, my Poly Mojo doesn’t offer DSD playback strategy either, even though this is supported. Yet, my 2Qute does (Roon Bridge). Both are set to fixed volume, but device volume yields the same results.

What should a hardware volume even be? Analoge (after the streamers DAC) or perhaps the (potentially DSD capable) volume control in the built-in DAC chip (that’s not being used when the device operates as a streamer)?
Most streamers offer various outputs (SPDIF, TosLink, AES, HDMI, USB) that are driven in parallel. So their is no way to send the volume control information to the DAC over some of those outputs which makes the streamer the only viable point to implement a volume control. When acting as a streamer it has to be purely digital – you don’t want to introduce a DAC -ADC round-trip, do you?

Do you have it enabled on the Poly? if so, I can set DSD (DoP) in Roon.

I found a better picture in the GoFigure manual. This seems to be current.

That’s all that’s on offer with the Mojo. My 2Qute is fixed volume.

@Mengelle_Timothee, try changing to fixed volume. Does that help?

You may be onto something. I’ve been away, and forgot my Camera Adapter, so had to switch to MDP mode and reset the Poly as I was having trouble connecting to Wi-Fi.

But that’s not controlled by Roon, IIRC not even when direct connecting the Mojo via USB without the Poly (streamer) when you use some sort of (remote) volume control.

That’s what I mean, no software volume control. It’s the same with or without the Poly.

Incidentally, you were correct, I had disabled DSD playback. However, no DSD strategy displayed in Settings; I assume that’s because Roon knows this.
