Computer Speakers for Study

I have just set up a study/office and would like to get some budget speakers to work with my laptop and listen via Roon. Say up to £400 including extras.

Currently looking at Ruark MR1 Mk 2 or Bose Companion 20. Any thoughts or other ideas.

I’ve been very happy with these - I have the desktop connected via the analogue in (for system sounds) and a Chromecast Audio connected via optical to enable Roon regardless of whether the computer is on or off. For their size and price they sound great to me. They also often have cheaper ‘B’ stock via the Ruark website.

What @dhusky said about these, they’re a really nice size as well. Very happy with them.

I got some active quads off eBay and they are great.
Edit. I read that back and realised it looks like a comment from a teenager.

Which model?

Thanks very much. I have a graded R2 so may well go that way.

The 9as. I either use a mojo, Mac mini or Apple TV into them.
There are some on Hi-Fi for sale uk but need picking up.

Just set up a pair of Vanatoo Transparent Zero on the desktop. Unbelievable sound from a tiny speaker. And most likely no sub required. Check them out. Great guys with an easy return policy.

Qacoustics BT3 likely pick them up cheap as discontinued, they are great powered speakers I use them in my 2nd system with an RME feeding them, sound great. They have inbuilt Dac to that takes optical as well.

Marc. They look great but don’t seem to be available in the UK.

I have Dynaudio BM5 MKIII paired with an Apogee Quartet AI and they sound amazing. I listen in this system about 6 to 8 hours a day as I work from home. The BM5 MKIII are way out of your budget but look for them in the used market or look for the Dynaudio LYD-5s which are their replacement model.

I would look at a pair of Dali Oberon 1, or Dali Spector 2, but I would add in an Audioquest DragonFly DAC.

Check out Audioengine. The A2+ are great for desktop.

I have these, and you can still find them on the used market for very little $$.

Yes, I’ve had these PSB speakers in my own desk-top set up. They sound great, but definitely benefit from subwoofer help on the low end.

Kanto YU6. You can’t beat them for the money!!! Awesome sounding active speakers!
