I own an Auralic Aries G1, which is Roon Ready certified. Since Auralic has ceased operations, I am concerned about the long-term compatibility of my device with Roon. Will the Aries G1 continue to function reliably with Roon Ready in the future, or is there a risk that changes to RAAT or other Roon protocols could eventually make it incompatible, given that no further firmware updates will be available?

A thought for future Auralic

A part of the beauty of RAAT is that the logic on the endpoint side is super simple. Even if the company is alive, they are not obligated to update the Roon Ready SDK on the devices. (When was the last time a Roon update required you to update the endpoint…). It does not do much more than load a script from the network, which then does the complex stuff. I.e., “future updates for Auralic go through Roon for Roon ready devices” is already what’s happening by design as far as Roon Ready support i…

Many people are concerned by this question, but in general you don’t have to worry about it any soon.

RAAT versions don’t have to be exactly matched all the time and even tho Auralic drops the support of its products it does not mean that your device will shortly lose it’s Roon Ready capabilities.

A long time is likely to pass before you notice any incompatibility issues.

This is what Roon is intended to achieve, but for sure we might not tell it exactly yet.
