To give you more guidance, you should give a bit more info. What do you mean with “messed up”?

Hello @Dr_Dave_Barr,

No worries — you can reinstall Roon without losing your music library, as long as you have a backup of the Roon database.

A quick clarification first, since this often causes confusion:

  • Your music files (the actual audio files) are not stored inside Roon
  • Roon stores a database with your edits, playlists, favorites, play history, and settings
  • Reinstalling Roon does not delete your music files

What to do before reinstalling

Before you reinstall, make sure you have a recent Roon backup:

  1. Go to Roon → Settings → Backups
  2. Confirm you have a recent backup listed
  • If not, create one now (manual backup)

Reinstalling Roon

Once you reinstall and launch Roon again:

  1. When prompted, choose Restore a backup
  2. Select your most recent backup
  3. Let Roon finish restoring — your library, playlists, and settings will return exactly as before

Your music files will be re-linked automatically as long as they’re in the same storage locations.
