I’ve added a new(ish) Linn 301 speaker and am having trouble with grouping it with my older Linn devices for playback.
The older streamers are Roon tested and work using the Linn Streaming protocol. The Series 3 speaker I’ve now added is Roon ready and so uses RAAT. As they’re different protocols, Roon won’t let me group them. Is there a way to force the Series 3 speaker to use Linn streaming?
The only obvious way I can see to group them in Roon would be to connect them via Airplay - but would obviously prefer to use Linn Streaming, if I can.

If the series 3 speaker is treated like regular DS boxes you should be able to go into your Linn account, select the speaker, go to ‘Music’ then change ‘Roon protocol’ from ‘Roon Ready’ to ‘Linn Streaming’.

I realised I was looking at this from the wrong angle.
In Linn Konfig it was possible to change settings for the Series 3 speaker to Linn Streaming (in Configuration / Sources / Roon).
Not sure what benefits of RAAT are over Linn Streaming but the cost of replacing my older Linn streamers probably outweighs them!
I have a mixture of old (Songcast) and new (RAAT) Linn streamers and use Roon exclusively to control them.
RAAT support has transformed group playback in my opinion, as using Songcast in the past always resulted in out of sync playback which was irritating. RAAT grouping works perfectly.
The problem as you say, is the two protocols can’t be grouped.
You therefore have to regress the Series 3 to using Songcast / Linn Streaming to group them.
I’m not sure Airplay can be used because the older devices will be Airplay 1 and the 301 will be Airplay 2. If Roon can group Airplay1/2 devices then that may well be the solution and I’ll have to look into it myself. Airplay 2 also has its own native grouping capabiltiy, I’ve never tried it.
Grouping / multi room playback is generally for casual listening / social settings so I don’t mind if its capped to CD quality for example.

It would be great to find a fix for this as I encounter all these issues. Out of sync drives me mad as two of the rooms adjoin with open doorways.
Which fix are you looking for? It will probably never change that only streamers using the same protocol can be grouped, but a solution for this was provided further up in the thread, when using Linn streamers of different generations.
If you are experiencing out-of-sync music when grouping: which streamers are you using and which protocol are you using for grouping? Songcast with old Linn streamers?
