I am a Roon user, I love the platform. I am interested in purchasing a Bang & Olufsen Beosound 2 (3rd gen) and notice that it's not Roon ready. Am I still able to connect this wi-fi speaker to my wireless Roon network?
Describe your network setup
I am using an Apple laptop as my core, which I'm about to upgrade to a Nucleus. I have super-fast Internet connect which goes straight into my laptop via ethernet. The wireless network is built out from here using Eero wi-fi extenders.
The B&O probably supports one of the streaming protocols that Roon supports, such as AirPlay or Chromecast:
However, note that grouping zones only works within one type, so you can group an AirPlay device with another AirPlay device but not with a Roon Ready device.
Also note that currently there is an issue with AirPlay in Roon that affects some configurations, but Roon is working on it.
I like the B&O design and own several of there pieces but bare in mind that B&O is not known that the use the latest and greatest technology and the are bad with updates. so i strongly advice you to enable arc and give them a try in the shop or ask if you can try them at home. from experience i know that even the sound can be very different with the input you choose. And don’t be surprised if the rest of the world update to a new version of airplay but the B&O not. That said it’s a beautiful loudspeaker and you can always use the 3.5 line-in jack
I know and before that the called it ASE. i did own several of there “upgradeable” stuff, mostly replacing everything because it was not so upgradeable. even there generations of the masterlink system where not so compatible. And still i buy B&O products because the are beautiful designed and have a great quality. but it’s very expensive and if you justify the purchase because it’s “upgradeable” think twice.
Thank you Marco. Like you I appreciated the aesthetics of B&O products, but I haven’t always had the best results with connectivity. Which is why I posted the question before make the purchase – this time
After consideration I’ve decided to go down the Roon Ready Naim Mu-so route. It seems like a safer option.
