Connecting Rock to DMP A6

I am having a problem connecting my ROCK to the USB-C input on an Eversolo DMP A6.

The Eversolo does not show up in “Devices attached to server” section and cannot therefore be enabled.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Thanks in anticipation, Sean.

Hi Sean. The DMP-A6 is an endpoint and can be enabled via wifi. Why are you trying to connect it directly?

So what is the connector on the ROCK side? USB C too?

I think there is no support for UCB C on ROCK up until the latest Early Access Roon OS build.

Hi Craig. Thanks for the early response. I am in fact asking for a friend who is not computer literate and is struggling to use the usb from his Rock. I use a usb connection myself from my own Rock into an IFI micro reclocker and find that I prefer the sound from this connection rather than connecting via the network bridge on my Directstream DAC. My friend had been using his Eversolo as a Roon ready device but wanted to see if a direct usb connection would be better sounding for him also after a recent visit to my home. I have talked him through how to setup the Eversolo as he doesn’t live close to me and it seems that he has done everything as per the manual. I was reaching out to the community to see if anyone else had this issue. Sean

Hi Blackjack. Thanks for the link. I shall investigate this. In answer to your question the connection is usb 3 from the Rock to usb c in on the Eversolo. Eversolo say in their manual that the usb c connection will accept audio up to DSD 512 and PCM 768 kHz. Sean

But does ROCK have drivers that would support anything that high rez?

Besides, with EverSolo having that nice big screen, connecting via USB you’re reducing it to showing just the stream format. Connect it over the network, as intended with Roon Ready devices, and it will show album art and stuff…

Then something is very wrong. The next troubleshooting goals should IMHO be:

  • to check the proper working of the USB connectors on the ROCK (using another DAC or storage device)
  • to check the proper working of the USB C input on the DAC using another source device than the ROCK

Thanks Blackjack. I have followed the link that you provided earlier and downloaded the bin file. I have uploaded to a share for my friend to access and I will talk him through the reinstall process which apparently adds USB C functionality to the Rock. Sean

Hi Boris. He is already using it as a Roon ready device. The USB connection is because he heard mine and thought it sounded better than via the network in my system and so he wanted to try it on his. Sean

Already checked the USB connectors on the Rock as I used them to load his library from an existing external hard drive. He has no other USB C devices capable of playing audio to his USB C input on his Eversolo. Hopefully your earlier link will furnish him with the USB C functionality that may be lacking on his Rock. I will let you know the outcome and thanks for all the help from all of you guys in the community. Sean

He isn’t trying to play high Rez files just standard 16 bit flac. I only mentioned the spec. as the Eversolo is supposed to be able to accept audio on the USB C input. Sean

Then your former answer wasn’t true/precise?

His connection is USB C to USB C then? So then as I wrote, there is no support for USB C in Roon OS prior to the version I linked. Using a cable with USB A and USB C (instead of one with two USB C) connectors or a converter/adapter could do the trick too.

Note: The release notes talk about new hardware support. I’m aware that older NUC’s with USB C connectors exist but it remains unclear if the new OS will enable the connector on older hardware too and what NUC the ROCK installation in question is based upon.

Thanks Blackjack. As I said, I will let you know how things go. Thanks for your help. Sean

Ah… I don’t have an EverSolo to validate, but there should be absolutely no difference in sound between the two.

At this point I guess you just need to start trying different USB ports and cables to rule out a problem somewhere in the connection.

I would start with just plugging the EverSolo into a normal computer and checking if it is recognized as a USB audio device.

Thanks for the advice Boris I will get him to try that and let you know how it turns out. Sean

Good luck!

Thanks Boris. Sean

Hi @Sean_Cassin,

Thanks for taking the time to write in, especially for a friend in need!

I’ll be on standby for your results as well - I think the community here has provided excellent next troubleshooting steps. :+1:

Thanks to everyone who has contributed helpful suggestions. The problem has now been resolved with the latest early access Roon OS build which has allowed him to use his USB C output from his Rock. Thanks to Blackjack for providing the link. This community has been a shining example of how to help a fellow Roon user and to do so in a swift and friendly manner. Thanks once again. Sean
