I’m looking at getting a new AV receiver and rather smitten with the new Marantz Cinema 40.
This is listed as Roon Tested, is there any possibility in the future of an end consumer being able to pay a licence fee to upgrade the unit to Roon Ready?
My understanding is it’s all there, as Tested it needs usb connection to a Roon Core but as Ready could run native from a ethernet/wifi connection.
In short no. Roon Ready requires the manufactures to embrace the Roon Ready programme and embed Roons api code in thier firmware and have it certified. Unless Marantz and Denon want to go this way it won’t happen. If they did it could possibly be done via a firmware update There is no license it’s free to them other than RnD costs. But as devices are generally built to a spec with limited resources this cannot always retrospectively be done. Roon takes up some system resources and they might not have enough spare. But all moot unless they come on board.
