Description of Issue

I just upgraded to a 12th gen NUC. I had a HP EliteDesk 800 Gen 4 Micro PC i5/32gb/500gb M.2 and had no issues with the HP.

Brand new NUC. Moved the M.2 and memory from the HP to the NUC. Full clean and then Rock install

Did this yesterday and I’ve had 4 songs stop due to slow loading. All local files on my Synology NAS. All over ethernet.

I have restarted it all. I have modified the DNS (from Google and now back on Google)

Music:

Synology NAS
Cisco Switch
Auralic Aries
PS Audio Preamp
HP micro PC for remote with Dell touchscreen

NUC/NAS/Switch all connected to a APC UPS

Oh and Google mesh for wifi (but not used in the music system)

BUMP I’m sure I’m not the only one?

As a test, I reinstalled Windows 11 onto the NUC. Works perfectly. Ran for a few days. Reinstalled Rock. Still have ‘waiting for core’ and unable to load song.

So I’m getting rid of rock in favour of windows.

I’ll give it time to see if anyone cares to add anything to this

Well you might, why not? Your specific network setup may well be unique or not widespread

I’d start with looking what it is managing and how.

I understand that it worked with the Windows Core, but things changed and might be subtly different now

Advanced Networking

Some Roon users opt for more advanced networking setups, including enterprise-grade routers, managed switches, and ethernet-over-power.

We have many users who have successfully configured their networks using this gear, but note that in some cases this gear requires more in-depth knowledge of networking, and these technologies can make troubleshooting more involved.

If you are having issues with Roon and you are using any of the networking technology listed below, we may ask you to temporarily simplify your network to help us rule out common stumbling blocks.

Managed Switches

Managed switches can be very robust, but they are often designed for professional installation, so in many cases the out-of-box configuration is not right. If your switch has a “flow control” setting, please make sure that it is enabled. Also, make sure that the switch is not performing any sort of throttling that might impact communication between cores, storage, remotes, and/or audio endpoints. Finally, ensure that the switch is configured to pass multicast and broadcast traffic. If in doubt about any of this, try temporarily replacing your managed switch with a “dumb” switch to see if things improve.

From:

In my experience even with all components on the same VLAN and switch Roon does not play well with functionality such as jumbo frames, flow control and the like so perhaps it might be worth disabling these if at all possible?

I don’t know, the help says to enable flow control. But yeah, if it was mine I’d disable all management, test if it works, and reenable one by one, testing each step

I have removed the managed switch, same issue.
Enabled flow control, no VLANs jumbo frames changed and same issue.

I think I’ll just go back to windows. A shame as I bought the NUC for Rock.

I’d wait until Roon support shows up and maybe has a look at your logs. ROCK works for most everyone else, I’m sure it can for you.

Hi @DSD_Fan,

We’d like to take a deeper look at your database, with your permission, to determine what underlying factors might not be performing well on the new NUC.

Are you able to compress your Roon database and send it to us via this Database Uploader?

Thank you!

Hi Connor,

I think I’ve fixed it. It’s been a few days without issue. I basically deleted everything and did fresh installs and a restore of the DB. If it does happen I’ll send the database, Thank you

Hi Connor,

Still having this issue. I’m happy to compress and upload the DB. How do I upload it?
