Corrupted files, which are not corrupted?

Hello everyone,

I have 2 albums that are displayed as corrupted. Outside of Roon I can play the ALAC files normally - so everything seems to be fine. (44,1Khz, 16 bit)

Is there somewhere I can find out why Roon shows them as corrupted even though they are actually OK?

Best Regards, Alex

Not a direct answer, but maybe try converting them to another lossless format and see if Roon accepts that instead?

Did you add them recently?

If so have you tried restarting Roon?

Other apps may play the file but it’s still possible they are corrupt, Roon is quite strict on audio format validation.

I recommend using a ripping software (ie use dBPowerAmp) and do a batch convert from FLAC to FLAC … this will typically be enough to correct the defect in the file so it conforms [fully] to the FLAC specification.

I’ve have good success with this.

I’ve run into this problem occasionally with digital downloads. When an album is imported ROON claims it can’t understand the formal (usually ALAC) for one or two of the songs on the album. They play fine in the Apple Music app. I usually create a FLAC version of the file and put it in the same folder as the ALAC files. ROON then shows all the songs on the album, though in mixed formats.

The funny thing is that when there is an update of the app, magically it starts recognizing the ALAC versions of the files it initially complained about. Go figure!

There is also a “test” mode that allows you to do this check without writing anything.

A detected corruption does not necessarily prevent its reproduction or that it is audible

All flac files normally have build in CRC checksums to check for corruption

you can check this with tools like dbPoweramp or in commandline
ex Can the integrity of a FLAC archive be tested?

Hello everyone,

Thanks to everyone for the answers.
I have converted the files to Flac and now they work.
It seems that roon is a bit picky when it comes to ALAC. What a pity.
But it also works with Flac

Had several cases of lossless files of various formats being shown as corrupt despite from being healthy as a file with no checksum problems. Noticed one thing: roon is picky when it comes to track duration, some of the corrupted as well as non-corrupt files were also shown with incorrect duration or with 0:00.

Transcoding them from FLAC/ALAC/AIFF to FLAC with foobar2000 helped in all cases.
