CXN v1 and Chromecast Audio

I’ve been offered a CXN v1 quite cheap and from what I understand the only difference is the lack of Chromecast to v2. So, could I plug a Chromecast audio digital output to the digital input of the CXN v1 to play hi res files? I’m presuming this would work?

Is this for use with Roon only ?

If it’s only for Roon, the easiest way is to use a raspberry with Ropieee, and it will be 24/192 full roon compatible (coaxial cable from Rasp to CXN)

Thanks, I presume I’d need something to be attached to the pi to get a digital output?
