Raiders colors, black and silver
Can’t wait till tomorrow to try these
Hey all, I’m a tad confused. Hoping you all can advise. I currently have a Gaia, Venus II, and Terminator +. I’ve never updated the firmware on any of them.
When I look at this page:
https://www.denafrips.com/firmware-update
It says (paraphrasing) contact support with purchaser info, serial number, date of purchase. Seems like the firmware is specific to different devices which seem logical.
When I look at this page:
https://www.denafrips.com/firmware-update-usb
It seems as if all firmware updates are the same. I find that hard to believe. Is there two different things going on here? First link specific to your particular DAC and the other is not DAC specific but just MCU/USB. I readily admit I don’t know what MCU is. Google suggests Marvel Cinematic Universe…but I’m guessing no.
I’m having some problems with my recently acquired T+. The Right Left channels are swapped when using my Gaia. Fine via USB only. I’ve messed with all the 0,0,0 to 1,1,1 settings and tried 3 different HDMI cables. No luck. So I thought maybe a firmware update would help. Thus my confusion when searching for “Denafrips Firmware Update” above.
NOTE: That Gaia and Venus II are perfect for both PCM and DSD when using the Gaia. I did have to keep Gaia at 0,0,0 but had to make Venus II 0,1,0.
Any and all help appreciated. Thanks!
It’s the microcontroller unit for USB. Denafrips uses STM32 chip on their DACs.
So, okay to upgrade that across all three and get specific ones if needed from Denafrips? Having read a bit more it seems that way. Odd they both come up when searching for firmware. Not immediately obvious.
From compatibility and data quality perspective, it’s immediate.
update firmware v 3.12 for USB input for each device. There are links to follow.
If channels are swapped when using Gaia you need to try other I2S settings on the Venus or Terminator e.g. 010 011 111 etc etc till it comes ok.
contact Alvin at Vinshine for specific assistance if still stumped.
All do-able, good luck.
I understand that. This is how I got the Gaia/Venus to work. Note above 0,0,0 had to be changed to 0,1,0 for my Venus.
I’ve tried every combination on both the gia and the Terminator Plus and none give proper channels for DSD files.
As for my previous question, yes the two files on my second link, the USB one, are universal for all devices. There is a video where Alvin explicitly lists all devices both DACs and DDCs.
I successfully updated both the gia and the Terminator Plus with the latest configuration file and USB firmware.
Still no combination that makes DSD right and left channels correct.
Ok gotcha.
I haven’t feed any DSD in, but upscaling and everything else ok. So it looks like one for Alvin(?) unless anyone else has the answer…
About 15 minutes ago Alvin saved the day. I should have waited for the time change instead of wasting five or six hours of my life. You know how it is when you get something new you just wanted to work so I kept trying. Turns out that Terminator Plus has a way to swap DSD channels. It appears that the previous owner may have done that. With Alvin’s instructions it took me less than 5 minutes to get it sorted out. I’ll post the info tomorrow for now I just want to listen to music. Thanks for everyone that tried to help.
How is that Boston DSD? I’ve been meaning to pull the trigger but was too worried it may not have the “oomph” of the original versions.
It’s pretty darn good. But can’t help but feel it is just missing a certain I-dont-know-what from vinyl original. I was tapping my toes to the entire “first side” (3 songs). Better than first reissue CD back in the day for sure.
For anyone that finds themselves with swapped L/R channels on DSD track only…I hope this helps.
There is a feature to swap the DSD channel on T+ via steps below:
I²S DSD Channel Swap Configuration
• COAX On = DSD Channel Swap
• AES1 On = Normal
Agree 100% with you John. The Gaia provides the same improvement in SQ and music
enjoyment per dollar invested as the T2 or T+.
Of course the rest of the system needs to be transparent enough to hear
the Denafrips.
The most anticipated review, ever!

Hi there, I am planning to buy a Denafrips Ares II, which allows very high bit rate music playback (DSD1024, PCM 15xx). NativeDSD.com actually has this kind of high resolution files on offer.
Now, which streamer on the market would actually allow me to get this high data rate from Roon to an Ares? My current streamer is a Allo DigiUSB and that maxes out at DSD256-512. Thank you!
I think Roon tops out at 512.
If Roon tops out at 512 the game is not over. I have an Auralic Aries G1 Streamer. It will do 1024. It has a native app that you could use to listen to the 1024 content instead of using Roon. I am sure that Lumin probably has something similar. FWIW I don’t have any 1024 content so I never tried this out. I am just going by the published info.
Hello, John.
I had an Aries G1 last year and didn’t get it past DSD512 so where did you see that it can do DSD1024?

Instead of finding the highest rate an album is available in, I recommend finding the original rate at which it is recorded in. Last time I checked it maxes out at DSD256 for commercial recordings. I’d ignore upmodulated / upsampled recordings categorically.
Lumin maxes out at DSD512 for some models. I believe the same is true for the other brand mentioned.
