Denon AVC-X6700 and Roon

Hi

I have a Denon AVC-X6700 amp, connected to my network but when I run roon, it doesn’t show up as an audio source.

This is a Roon Tested device, so needs to be connected to a Roon Ready streamer (via digital input—not Ethernet) or directly to your core if a suitable input is available.

No Denon’s or Marantz are Roon Ready. They should work via Airplay over the network as this model does not appear to be Roon Tested like other Denon AVR’s it should show up under Other Network Devices. You can also hook it up via HDMI in direct from a computer or via another streaming device using the spdif inputs. These methods will get you higher than CD quality.

There is also a Roon extension called RHEOS which bridges Roon to Heos music streaming look in Tinkering section but this is DiY approach and you need some extra kit to run it. I am using this currently with my Marantz Amp, it works but has some minor issues the developer is looking at. It allows for hires streaming.

Hi
Thank you for the responses, unfortunately I can’t see it with airplay, even though I have it enabled on amp, and its showing on the network, as I am controlling via the tenon amp.

Your best bet is to get a network endpoint using Roon code and plug it into the amp via Coax. They range in price, but, the Wiim Pro is getting good reviews for an inexpensive device.

Just to make sure we are not missing something obvious, what do you mean when you say

Do you mean that you can not select it for playback, or do you mean that it is not available when navigating to Settings > Audio?

That is correct. Some Denon or Marantz models are Roon Tested, but not all. In fact the model specified by the OP is not even Roon Tested. At least not according to Roon’s partner page.

Nevertheless, the device should be available to use with Airplay. Once that is working you can can start looking at the Rheos extension for hi-res playback

Edit: corrected the not correct

No I am correct read my post again or even that sentence again.

I apologize. I missed the “no”.

Hey Martin, I see the AVC-X6500 listed as tested but not the 6700. Don’t know why or if it really doesn’t mater.

@Pietro_Macari I have the AVR-X8500H and it showed up in Setting - Audio as an Airplay device over Ethernet before it was Roon tested. If the 6700 and your core device is connected to the same Network it should show up.

It doesn’t matter, it only means they have not had it in to test as Denon have not sent one to them. Airplay works with Roon tested or not.

Can you see it as airplay target from any other device, iphone, ipad? Is the core on the exact same subnet of your network as the Amp.

I most likely misread the model number, but as you say, it won’t make much difference as the DAC should work fine with Roon when connected to a suitable streamer.

No worries

Hi
Not available when navigating to settings> Audio

Hi
Its on the same subnet, but doesn’t appear on either Ipad or Iphone as a target.

Then something on your router is likely blocking multicast broadcasts as Airplay relies on mDNS for discovery. Check your router for any settings related to it.

What is your network setup, using a mesh, is the core hardwired and is the amp?

Hi

My both my core and amp are hard wired, back to managed switch.

Definitely possible. Do you have any other airplay devices that are working? Either from Roon or directly from iPhone or iPad?

Other than that, I am assuming that the receiver is on or configured active network in standby?

Then it’s possible the switch is blocking multicasts if not set up properly.
