Describe the issue

My Room Server (iMac) and my Denon DRA 900H Receiver are both hard wired ethernet. But the Denon connection shows up in Room as via Airplay 2. I had hoped that by using Roon I could avoid the res limitations of Airplay? Any ideas?

Describe your network setup

Linksys MX4000 Series router and nodes, mostly hard wired.

The list of Roon Ready and Roon Tested devices is listed here:

https://roon.app/en/partners

For Denon, the list is here:

https://roon.app/en/partners/104/denon

While the specific DRA-900H is not listed, as it is similar to the DRA-800H it can be assumed to be Roon Tested also. Roon Tested means that it works with Roon via a third-party streaming protocol such as Apple AirPlay or Googe Chromecast, but it not natively supporting Roon’s transport protocol (“RAAT”) which would mean it is Roon Ready. AirPlay is limited to 16/44.1 streaming, everything would be downsampled to that if the file was a higher resolution.

The 900H does have optical and coaxial connections, which if connected to a Roon Ready network streamer (there are many available such as a Raspberry Pi with Roon Bridge or products from Wiim, Bluesound, etc.) then higher resolution is available. Also, a PC or Mac connected via coax or TOSLINK and running Roon Remote or Roon Bridge would also provide higher resolution than AirPlay.

Denon is (currently, anyway) not a Roon Ready device. The only way Roon can communicate with it is using AirPlay (Chromecast, if it supports that).

Hi adtomlinson,
Unfortunately as stated by the other users the Denon is not a Roon Ready device.
