DENON DRA800H Volume problems when grouping rooms

In my ROON system I operate 4 systems, two of which are driven by a DENON DRA800H.

Now the following problem occurs regularly: when I group or ungroup these two amplifiers, the volume is set to 0dB. Only when I tap on + or - at the volume setting in ROON does the volume jump back to its previous value.

Before ROON, the Denon was running with a BlueSound Node, where these problems did not occur. In my opinion, the DENON is very awkward and uncomfortable to set up. I suspect it is somehow due to the interaction with ROON…

Do you have similar experiences or a workaround for this phenomenon?

Thank you and best regards,
Lorenz.

Hello @Harfenklang ,

Thanks for reaching out and for your report here! I haven’t seen similar reports, can you please reproduce the issue and let us know the exact local time + date + track when you observe it occur next? We’ll take a look over your remote Roon logging to see if there’s anything of note, thanks!

Hi Noris,

Thanks for the answer! I will collect examples and take a screenshot whenever the issue happens. If I have a few of them together, I’ll send them to you!

With kind regards,

Lorenz.

Hello Noris,

I’ll send you two screenshots from today, 09/13, where this problem occurred.

Again the process: I changed the playback device via the double arrows in the volume menu. Then the device turns on, the track played off but it was only heard when I pressed the volume button.

Thank you for your efforts,

Best regards,

Lorenz.

The DENON DRA800H has two zones of speakers A and B, Are you using both in your set up?

Hello, sorry for the late reply…did not receive a message!

I have two Denon amplifiers of the same type. For one I only use “A” for the other “A +B”.

Strangely, this error really only occurs sometimes, for no specific reason…!?

Controlling multiple zone volumes is something that I’ve never been able to get to work without RHEOS - and I’m struggling to make that as seamless as I want it to be. Perhaps take note of when you have the B zone active and how changing the volume on the amp is reflected in ROON. Just an idea

Hi @Harfenklang ,

I was looking over your thread again and this sounds like the power on volume for the device could be very low, and then by you changing the volume, you are overwriting the startup volume. Is there any change in behavior if you try to set the power on volume to something else?

Also, if you try to group the devices using another app (like iOS Airplay grouping) does the same behavior occur?
