Much appreciate everyone’s efforts to help me on this. I think the best solution for me is to plug a USB stick into my i5 SonicTransporter music server. I assume that stick will show up as an option to backup the Roon DB.
I must say, in general, Roon is a wonderful program. User friendly to the extreme. I simply do not understand why backing up the Roon DB should be such a difficult experience.
It isn’t. There’s something very simple that you’re missing.
Backing up the database shouldn’t be too difficult, but the issue here is that you are trying to save the backup across the network, which complicates things a bit with the possibility of a firewall, network settings, samba settings and permissions you have set up, ect.
The simplest solution would always be attached USB storage, I would just make sure that the Core supports USB storage on the port (and not just USB audio devices). A simple test with a flash drive should tell you this though.
