Disable FLIRC remote when zone is not active?

Is there a way to disable commands from the FLIRC remote when the zone it controls is not active?

My living room system has a Ropieee touchscreen with a old (first gen) FLIRC to control Roon. I use the remote control for my LG OLED TV (AN-MR21GC “Magic Remote”). Up until recently, this worked perfectly, as the remote would send out IR commands when the TV was off, then switch to RF-only when the TV was on. However, the remote now seems to keep sending IR commands when the TV is on. When someone is presses the center button to select something on the TV, it will send an IR “play” command to the FLIRC, which turns on Roon and switches the receiver input to Roon instead of the TV.

For now, I just erased the play/pause button in the FLIRC configuration, but it would be nice to have this feature back again. If the FLIRC commands only worked when the “Living Room” zone was on, this would allow me to add the command back to FLIRC.

In case any of this is relevant, the rest of my living room system is an older Denon AVR-x4300w, controlled via CEC when the TV is on. The Denon/Marantz Roon extension controls the volume and input selection when listening to music via Roon. I have a separate Ropiee device with a HifiBerry Digi2 Pro connected to a coaxial input on the Denon.

Thanks!

I’m not entirely sure what you mean. The functionality has always been the same: commands are being sent to the Roon zone. Roon zones don’t know the concept of ‘active’ or not. They are either there, or they aren’t. Your description what happens is from my perspective exactly how it should work…

When using the Denon/Marantz remote extension, the endpoint does show an on/off status, but I guess that’s somewhat unique. Fortunately, I found a solution to the problem I’ve been having. I recently bought a new LG magic remote, paired it to the TV, and put it in a drawer as a spare. Somehow in this process I must have put the original remote in “IR always” mode, because I tried the newer remote and it works properly, with IR commands only being sent when the TV is off.

Thanks!
