Describe the issue

I moved my Roon Server from an iMac to a MacBook Pro and all of my zones except for Sonos have disappeared. I can access them all on my Mac in Settings>Sound and stream local music to them (but not through Roon)

Describe your network setup

Motorola MG7700 modem/router connected directly to 2021 14" MacBook Pro, Apple M1 processor, 16 GB RAM
Audioengine HD3 speakers, bluetooth or hardwired
Marantz HD-DAC1 hardwired

Have you tried this?
I usually toggle Roon and Roon Server here.
It usually resolves this without a reboot if you wait a bit.

@Suedkiez

In addition, there are now a large number of reports that this was fixed by Apple with 15.3:

Ah right,
I was having that issue on 15.2 every restart but just realized it hasn’t happened since I updated to 15.3.

The evidence is mounting, thanks

Actually, my iMac was on 15.2 (where I could see all the zones). The MacBook Pro to which I moved Roon is on 15.1 but I see no update available in Apple>About This Mac. My firewall is off. I toggled the Roon & Roon Server as you suggested and when I rebooted, I get the “Waiting for Roon Server message.” It won’t connect at all now.

The problem happened with 15.0, 15.1, and 15.2, but not all the time and not for everyone, it seems, because it was most likely a bug in macOS that meant that macOS either didn’t correctly prompt to ask for network permissions for Roon, and/or or lost them and/or didn’t save the permissions correctly. And this didn’t necessarily have to happen all the time and everywhere

Apple released 15.3 three days ago, so if you don’t see it yet, this would be a question for the Apple forums, etc., I guess. All my devices have it

Hi @Robert_Kruse
Thanks for reaching out to us about this issue. Can you see if this issue still occurs on MacOS 15.3?

After numerous resets of the modem and restarting the MacBook I was able to see and use my endpoints (zones) on the MacBook. When I login the option is “this Mac.” When I tried to use my iPad and iPhone as remotes I was only prompted to log into the old server’s name “iMac”. Because these two devices can only act as remotes I figured there was no harm in trying to connect to what appeared to be the unauthorized account. They both connected fine and could control Roon. When I try to use my new MacBook Pro M4 as remote my login options are iMac or “use this computer for the server.” Figuring that the iMac name was stuck somehow from my older installation I thought OK and selected iMac and as soon as the new M4 Mac connects all play stopped. If I quit Roon on the M4, play will resume. Since the MacBook Pro M4 is going to be my main computer,(not Roon Server) I need to get it to act as a Roon remote. I deleted the previous installation of Roon that was migrated during the set up of the new computer and I installed it fresh. It still kills all playback.

Also, back on the MacBook server, the file path to my local music storage location is: iMac>Fantom>Music>Music files. Is there any way to change the iMac name? It is no longer in the picture and these vestiges of my old setup during the move seem to be causing issues.

Hi @Robert_Kruse,

I assume you had loaded a backup from the old computer. If you loaded the backup through time machine it would explain why this happened.

According to our records the M4 had been a Roon Server around 6 days ago. If you go to Roon settings → General on the M4 Mac what server does it say it connected to? It may still be tied to that original server.

You can edit the file path or delete it and enter a new one from the three dot menu in settings → Storage.

The M4 prompted me for a login and then showed me logged in as {Email hidden by staff} to iMac 192.168.0.19. I checked the IP address in network settings on the MacBook server and it is the same. When the M4 is connected to Roon, Roon shows the beginning of playback but no audio and then quickly (every second or so) scans through the track list, while not playing anything. Once I quit Roon on the M4, playback resumes using iPhone, iPad, both connecting to “iMac”

It appears that when I try to edit the file path in the Storage setting as you suggested (and which I had tried previously), that I can’t edit back further than Fantom, let alone changing the top level “iMac.”

Hi @Robert_Kruse ,

Did you by any chance use Migration Assitant or restore the M4 to iMac (or vice-versa)? If so, the Roon app would have been copied over and I’ve sent you instructions via private message on how to separate them.
