There is a loud noise when the music playback starts.

Please tell us what hardware and operating system software you are running Roon Server on, and what the USB is connected to.

And the operating system being used on the NUC?

Thanks for letting us know about this issue. Please test using different USB ports and cables to see if the issue is a damaged port or cable. Also, try using your USB DAC with another machine running Roon to see if that works.
