Does the RAAT version matter?

Just a question. Does the RAAT version matter?
I ask this cause on my Lumin I have a far more newer version then on my Gato Dia.

Not really because RAAT is cleverly designed to be largely independent of firmware updates

Hi Sued. I have the Gato almost 3 years and till now i never received a fw update. So it does make a difference ! As you know i have both a lumin and the Auralic Vega S1.
It’s like i really dont have to worrie then about the Vega working 100% with Roon.

See this in the link I posted - they knew that many devices never get firmware updates and therefore designed RAAT to be not dependent on them:

Support for new streaming services, file formats, DRM schemes, etc can be supported without a firmware upgrade. In fact, the only reason an upgrade should be required is to fix a low-level bug, or to access more hardware functionality. This is really important. Not all partners/hardware have easy firmware update paths that can be done at home. Our acceptance of this reality has deeply influenced RAAT’s design. Just as with Google’s Cast devices, the majority of the business logic is delivered to the device at run-time as a script. This means that we are capable of completely re-designing the audio streaming and buffering logic without updating device firmware. This is absolutely critical, since most of the bugs + evolution in a system like this relate to networking, not audio. Other than Cast, we are unaware of another system that is this flexible.

If rumours are correct, your Vega may not receive any more updates. However, Roon has said this …

Yeah but

is a direct contradiction to the RAAT design link,

“This means that we are capable of completely re-designing the audio streaming and buffering logic without updating device firmware. This is absolutely critical, since most of the bugs + evolution in a system like this relate to networking”

I think we must be very careful here regarding what kinds of updates and bugs are considered. Of course, there won’t be any firmware updates and this will prevent any changes that require firmware updates, including e.g. new Roon SDK versions. However, as per the design documentation, this should not prevent Roon from dynamically delivering the majority of updates they need for RAAT. Or, as the documentation states, “In fact, the only reason [a firmware] upgrade should be required is to fix a low-level bug, or to access more hardware functionality .”
