Describe the issue

Using Roon app on android with Samsung Galaxy Buds 3 Pro, SSC, 96 kHz 24 bit source, plays 24 bit in Roon on Galaxy S24 Plus, but down converts to 16 bit on S25 Ultra. Why?

Describe your network setup

Netgear Orbi 6e router used by both phones

Adding screen shot from S24 Plus where the same ear buds are in use but not down converting.

Just a question, but did you check to make sure sample rate conversion is disabled in Muse in the Roon app on the S25.

Might also look in the device setup area to check the max bits per sample setting? and other settings…

Don’t have galaxy buds but might check the app for them to see if they are both set up the same and the same/latest version?

Yes, i checked all of those things. No conversion in Muse, configured the same in BT and Galaxy Wear settings. Settings are straightforward. In Wear app there’s a setting under Sound quality and effects > Advanced quality options > Ultra high quality (UHQ) audio which is toggled on (thus at least seeing 96 khz). In BT, under Details for the device the UHQ toggle is on there as well.

As far as Developer Options is concerned 16 bit is not a configurable option for the ear buds using SSC codec.

Update: I just restarted the S25 Ultra and now the UHQ codec toggle has completely disappeared in BT settings and in the Wear app.

Update 2: Without doing anything else, now UHQ toggle has reappeared, I toggled it on again, and now Roon is no longer down sampling to 16 bit.

Hi @Lance_8888,

Thank you for reaching out to Roon Support.

Based on your last reply, it seems like the issue may have been caused by a OneUI system glitch that temporarily returned the wrong device configuration. Could you please confirm if you’re still experiencing the issue?

We’ll be happy to investigate further if the problem persists.
