DSD: failed to initialize the audio device

Roon Core Machine

ODROID H2
Windows 10.

HDMI out into a Denon s950H

Description of Issue

I can no longer play my DSD albums in DSD format through my Denon. I keep getting: “failed to initialize the audio device”. This issue started a while back and I gave up trying to fix it. I’ve been trying again, but still can’t get it working.

I’ve tried every combination of DSD setting for the Device Setup. What is most frustrating is that it used to work, and then stopped.

I’ve also completely reinstalled Windows now and the problem still persists.

How does the Denon appear in your list of possible output devices? Sometimes, there is more than one option for such a device, e.g., “Direct” vs. “Wasapi.”

It only appears once as WASAPI.

Oh well. It was worth a try.

Hey @Zayne_Upton,

Sorry to hear you’ve had troubles getting DSD playback recently. Following up on this thread could you please reproduce this issue and take note of the date and time, and share the time stamp here?

We’ll be able to take a closer look into what might be going on with the information you provide :+1:

Also, if you can provide more details around your network setup as well, that would be great.

A post was split to a new topic: DSD failed to initialize audio device

I’ve decided to let my Roon subscription lapse and not renew. I stopped buying hi-res music because for me it simply wasn’t worth it. So I’m not going to bother trying to troubleshoot this issue any further.
