DSD Playback sounds channel switched

I have 4 roon devices;

  • PC with external DACs connected to USB.
  • SoTM sMS-200 Bridge connected to USB.
  • Primare I35 Prisma with internal DAC.
  • Aurender A1000 with internal DAC.

Even though PC and sMS-200 doesn’t have any problems when playing DSD,
I35 & A1000 sound left and right channel switched. PCM playback has no problem.

I asked Primare and Aurender to fix this issue. I suspect the problem is the RoonReady firmware that plays DSD on each device.

I know we had the same issue a while back, but if anyone knows how it’s been resolved since then, I’d love to hear about it.

I’ve checked for you with DSD with my Primare PRE35 Prisma (here DAC changed from DM-35 to DM-36) and

  • SOtM Neo through USB
  • through RAAT to PRE35 Prisma
  • HQPlayer/Roon → Red NAA → USB → Holo Audio May → balanced to PRE35 Prisma
  • Roon → Red RAAT → I2S → Holo Audio May → balanced to PRE35 Prisma
    Result: No channel mapping at all!

By the way: Had problem (how old is your i35?) with the old Prisma module and Roon/RAAT: DSD played here with very low volume and disturbed.
Primare (Terry) knows about this problem and I get for my two PRE35 Prismas (the second one uses as DAC the PM-35) in exchange two newer (they’ve other revisions) Prisma modules, which solves this problem.
So, at first, I would contact Primare.

I purchased I35 Prisma around 5 years ago.
It had DM35(AK chipset) and Old Prisma at first.
I exchaned Prisma module (SM35 new one) Feb, 2024,
because old one produces noise when playing DSD.

For this issue, I already contact Terry and Primare Quality team,
but they don’t recreate this issue. That’s why I posted the issue.

BTW, Aurender A1000 is very brand-new one, but it has the same with
with I35 prisma which is very strange. I sent mails to the support team and waiting for their reply. I think it’ll take some time due to Korean lunar new year holiday.

I can’t say anything about the Aurender, but the strange thing is, that my Primare is working as expected and yours not.
Are you using as source stereo or multichannel files. Are there any DSPs from Roon involved?
By the way: I’m very rarely using the Primare as Roon endpoint, because the May with HQPlayer sounds much better and also an external Roon endpoint through USB is here a better solution.
Nethertheless: It has to work in a correct way.

As of Today, Both primare and Aurender recreated the issue and they will do their best to solve the problem. I wish…
