DSD Recording Cuts Out

Just downloaded my first DSD (DSF) recording. Roon plays it well through my Topping D-90 DAC. But after 5-10 minutes the playback just stops. I’m using Win 11 / 16 GB Ram on a Intel 7-12th generation processor. Any way to have these DSD files play through without stopping?..Thanks

Description of Issue

DSD files are usually much larger than PCM.
So it could be a consequence of network issues.
Adding your Core, network and connectivity details will help us.

Are you seeing any messages from Roon such as “file is loading slowly”?

This is a file that has been downloaded…so it can’t be a network issue. I don’t see any messages from Roon popping up. The file is about 1.5 GB and I downloaded the 256 DSD option. My core is MARCTWANG. Sounds great when it plays!

Network meaning your local network.
But we’re guessing as we don’t know your set up details as per the template.
ie if your endpoint is wired or wifi or what your hardware is.
DSD is handled differently on different hardware.

Btw I’m a user not staff.
Roon staff can be identified by their profile badge.

Does the playback stop in a song, or between tracks?
And i suppose you are running the full Roon application on the iMac, as well as connecting your DAC through USB on the same iMac?

Still, give us a screen shot of the signal path while playing this particular track?

It is a wired connection. Using a Dell XPS 8950
Through Roon DSD and a Topping DAC. The player stops intermittently at about 15 minutes into the album. It can be restarted but it will stop playing again!

Apologies for the iMac reference, just a bit dizzy in a haze!
But, you didn’t answer a single question of mine, nor provide a screenshot. Not easy to assist…

I’m not clear on what screenshot you are looking for…or what you mean by template or endpoint.

There is a template when you are writing for a problem. Writing from my phone now so can’t give you quick the link

Screenshots of your signal path and other settings for the dac

Not sure this is helpful but you can see where the track stopped playing and the DAC readout.

Signal path you will see if you click on the star in the left of the previous button
Settings from Settings/Audio/“Your Output”

Hey Marc,

To get the signal path click the coloured dot when playing music.

This brings up the signal path.
Mine looks like this.

This info will help us (and you) understand what might be happening here.

Why do you play DSD and the Dac gets PCM? There are some settings that need to be adjusted (dunno if that is the problem)
I’ll google your dac to see the settings

Or the pictures are not correct (as the album is the new LSO Prokofiev while the playing track is Medtner: Two pieces for 2 pianos)

It was another track, or you have another dac named also D-90

Are your settings for the dac ok? can you post a screenshot? Sorry as is late for me and I’ll not be able to respond.

I suspect the DAC is not In fixed mode. Or not set to native DSD. That’s why DSD256 gets converted to pcm .
