I've noticed that Roon creates duplicate albums, mainly for compilations. There is a 'main' album with most of the tracks, and one or more 'additional' albums with other tracks actually part of the 'main' album. Some tracks seem to be duplicates but on further inspection, those are not real duplicates, as there are no duplicate files in the folder.
But it gets even stranger, when I edit the tags of the files Roon seems to index the album correctly again.
Unfortunately no, I tried to fix some others and what I thought to be a workaround only works for a handful. Tried editting multiple tags, changing files names with leading zeroes, moving folders etc. At first it seems to work but a couple of minutes later the changes revert.
The only way to permanently fix this is to manually merge each album. Which is quite the challenge with hunderds of albums to fix.
In your screenshot, I would assume that when you have multiple files selected, your tag editor would show the tags they have in common. It appears not to be doing that when you have all files selected like you have in your video. Have you tried rewriting the Album Artist and Album Name metadata for all tracks at the same time for these problematic albums?
Thank you for the report. The team has identified certain object duplications in server diagnostic logging that are consistent with patterns in an ongoing investigation.
Diagnostics indicate that you have multiple devices running Roon in your network environment. At your convenience, please try the following test:
Close Roon on all your remotes
Open Roon on two different devices and navigate to the exact same Album details page in both
Now, navigate to the Album browser (or wherever you commonly see duplicated various artists albums) in just one remote. Note if duplicates appear.
Repeat steps 1-2 again
Close Roon on one remote, and navigate to the same browser page from step 3 on the other remote. Does the duplication occur again?
On our side, we’ll inspect diagnostic logging from the event closely alongside QA and development. Please let us know the results of this test at your convenience, and thank you again for your patience.
I did the test, with Roon remote on my desktop and a laptop. But the outcome is a little confusing. In step 3, the album only loads on one device but doesn’t load on the other. The duplicates still occur though.
Hi DDPS, this tag editor only shows the tag from the last file selected.
I tried saving multiple metadata fields again and that does work. But, with hunderds of corrupted albums and no fault in the tags that is not an option for me.
That would typically mean that you have mismatched tags in each of your files, which will cause the issues you are having, and is indeed considered a fault in your tagging.
You must select all related files at once and change them using the multi-file tag editing tab:
@DDPS makes a good point above, are you able to complete the multi-file editing process?
Can you be more specific here - which device didn’t load the album? And, which album specifically? Our team will pull fresh diagnostic reports to investigate further.
