Dutch & Dutch 8c: pre-Roon Ready thread

I’ve suggested this before, but a repetition can’t hurt… let’s hope D&D will give users a choice whether to use RAAT ethernet input on one speaker and AES to the other or stereo sync via ethernet to both. Sync via ethernet is very nice and simple (to the end user), but there may be situations where it won’t work. The AES/EBU would be used anyway if one sends a digital signal over XLR to one of the speakers, so using the stream from ethernet is quite simple. One advantage to this solution is that the speaker that receives the stream also acts as master clock.

What firmware does everyone have for the 8cs currently?

Mine are running 1.3.12 with auto update enabled.

I know the sound anchor stands are popular but is anyone using the monolith stands by monoprice?

No but I am using Skylan stands. They make version for the 8cs. I like them a lot.

I’m using the Sound Anchor’s Signature Stands. http://soundanchors.com/products/2052/signature

They’ll make them custom to fit the 8Cs. They are beasts – very heavy – but awesome stands. Here’s how they look.

Those do look nice how much are they?

Also what height are those?

There was an event in Stockholm a little while ago. Dutch & Dutch 8C was in one of the rooms.
I met Martijn there and had a really interesting talk. But something that was even cooler was that they did the demo using ROON. An Innuos server was hidden behind the curtains , feeding the Dutch and Dutch 8C over the ethernet.

The volume was adjusted in the ROON. So when they turned the volume up or down in ROON, the lanspeaker web interface followed.

So for all of us waiting for ROON , this is great news !
I even saw Martijn using REW , setting the speakers up by doing measurments , creating filters and then with a click of a button , sending the filters to the D&D8C . No more manual work. There will be an D&D8C implementation with the upcoming REW update ???

Modified Cutom Design RS304. Kept the “legs” and made some bigger top and base plates.
Price around 500 euro.

They were custom made and were pretty pricey – ~$1,300 – but included shipping which isn’t inconsequential due to their weight. They’re 41" to the base – way higher than a normal listening room as they are in a pool house with a pool table and bar where everyone generally sits in taller bar seats or is standing so wanted the speaker height to be this high. I’m sure they’d be cheaper if shorter. But about as solid a base as you could get for the 8Cs, look to be designed exactly for them (which they were), come with feet for solid floors or carpeting and come filled.

Those are pricey, mine are currently sitting in a bar chair as they just arrived tonight. So far I love them.

What is the most elegant looking stand that people are using? I will be replacing some large PMC floorstanders with D&Ds soon (hopefully) and need to move away from the tall boxy look. They will be closer to the rear wall which will help but I don’t want a huge chunky stand underneath them. I guess a single central ‘column’ type stand would be what I’m after. Mounting on an L shaped bracket or shelf bolted to the wall may also be an option if I could find something strong enough.

Hi, this is really interesting news. Did you ask more about how the Innuos to 8c connection was made? Some kind of ethernet switch was probably located between the server and the speakers since both speakers need to be connected by ethernet (as I understand).

Yes, the setup was:

Dutch and Dutch 8C
Innuos Mini + PSU
Ethernet switch.

1 lan cable per speaker to the switch , and the innuos also connected to the switch. No cable in between the speakers at all.

Thanks, that’s what I thought. I wonder whether the Innuos side has any effect on SQ in this kind of setup (with a switch in between).

When I “demo’d” the Dutch & Dutch, several months ago, I connected them via an Ethernet switch using my Innuos Zenith mkII SE and used ROON, the sound was, to my ears, very very good - certainly on a par, if not better than my Devialet 1000. The main reason I did not go for the D & D was purely the aesthetics - The WAF was not high enough and they did not really fit comfortably in our Lounge, which is the main listening room! They looked too imposing on the size of stands required to mount them securely.

i have been asking myself this many times.
I owned the Innuos Statement for a while, waiting for the ROON integration on the D&D8C.
I Returned it for two reasons. 1. Roon is taking a little longer then expected. 2. The Statement had a bunch of internal clocks, and that clocked signal would be re-clocked again reaching the D&D8C . But SQ wise, for sure there are differences, not worth spending 14K euros on tho.

I would say that the Innuos Zenith MKIII would be more than enough. One of the best experiences ive had so far with the D&D8C was with an Aurender N10 connected via AES/EBU . Really loved the little darker sound it gave the D&D8C. Problem is that Aurender dont do ROON at all…

You’ll have to have a second listening room then

Finally got my D&D. Sounds great directly from the box…
