Hello Everyone,
We’re excited to share the first Early Access build of RoonOS 3.0 — the biggest change to the operating system layer since the v2 UEFI transition. This release represents months of work across storage, hardware support, and reliability, and we’re putting it in EA’s hands first so we can catch any rough edges before the wider rollout.
What’s new in RoonOS 3.0
USB Storage: automatic corruption repair
Drives that weren’t safely ejected from Windows or macOS are now automatically handled on mount, rather than failing or requiring manual intervention. Note that this is not a substitute for a full disk check — if a drive keeps having issues, running a repair tool on it from your computer is recommended.
Network Sharing (Samba 4 Upgrade)
RoonOS 3.0 upgrades the file sharing stack from Samba 3 to Samba 4, bringing updated technology and improved security. All existing network folders carry over seamlessly — no reconfiguration needed.
Action required for RoonOS Data Share: Samba 4 no longer allows fully anonymous access to the RoonOS Data share. To access the RoonOS Data folder, you will now need to enter credentials when prompted:
- Username: guest
- Password: guest

Tailscale
Tailscale has become more configurable in this release, with a couple of improvements to how it manages itself over time.
Update mechanism. Tailscale will check for new updates in the background. When an update is available, the RoonOS Web UI will display a notification. The update can be performed manually to the latest version available.
Auto-reinstall on v2 → v3 upgrade. The new version of Tailscale is automatically installed during the the RoonOS upgrade. The Tailscale auto-install runs after OS reboots.
