No. You can change them as much as you like, they just don’t get displayed in favor of WORK / PART as multi-part compositions.
Turn off (Edit Album at the bottom) the use of WORK / PART (aka multi-part composition) for the album so that track titles are used.

Yes but then I obviously lost the display Work/Part I want.
Once my album has been identified, I’d like to be able to easily edit a track that has been identified as part of a work. My question was: can I do so without editing the file metadata?
Not in Roon. In case metadata is faulty you can inform the provider and request a change (or inform Roon Labs about it). For MusicBrainz you can become an editor yourself. See also:
