Description of Issue

Running Nucleus as Core. Remotes include various iOS devices and Windows PC. Get below message since yesterday similar to other threads here.

I’ve uploaded log per these instructions:

I cannot access my Core to provide further information.

I don’t know if you already followed Danny’s advice from your feedback thread to change the DNS? As Danny wrote, most of the other issues with checking for update were caused by DNS problems and where solved for many by using a good DNS server. Try 1.1.1.1 (Cloudflare) or 8.8.8.8 (Google).

Most routers let you configure the DNS server in the router settings. This benefits all devices on the network and often results in generally faster internet queries. Most routers by default use the ISP’s DNS server which is often crappy.

Hi - thank you, yes I saw that - I did try that to no avail.

What’s different between SC and CT?

Just asked for logs from both Nuclei, and SC responded without issues, whereas CT is not responding. This reeks of DNS or firewalls or something interfering with proper communication to our servers.

SC = South Carolina
CT = Connecticut
Two different homes, cores, networks, etc.
I’m looking into what you reference right now -
But just started with this update?

No, but you may never have checked for updates before… or needed support (in CT).

Think of it as “Roon ran fine in a partially good state while things were messed up”, but now it needs to do something where things can’t be messed up.

That said, your device is talking to us in some ways, so it seems to be a weird partial failure.

Did you try to reboot it – that might get you new DHCP/DNS (depending on your router)?

I appreciate you trying to help!

I’m not sure about having needed support in CT in the past but I’ve checked for updates many times - I’ve had this installed here for a few years now. I will say now that you described it the way you did is that I’ve had “weird” things here that I don’t have in SC. For example, a zone dropping during playback, upon startup I constantly get “unable to log in” messages under Tidal and Qobuz and I have to hit “log-in” again. Maybe those are symptoms along the lines you described.

I’ve tried re-booting everything - and poking around in my router settings - which pretty much exhausts my IT abilities. I’ve reached out to the people that installed my home network and automation systems and am awaiting their reply. I will keep you posted.

your CT just sent me logs… what changed? it should be working

You beat me to it. I rebooted everything once again (2nd time the charm I guess) - router, network switches, Nucleus, etc. -
This time, however, I got the Roon startup image for a full few minutes. Then it showed my Nucleus-CT - I connected to it - it went through about three cycles of giving me the required update message and prompt, me hitting update now, losing core connection, etc. This time I didnt get the immediate error regarding issue downloading the update. While this was going on on my iOS device, I logged into it via my browser and got the below, so I was encouraged. After another few minutes, Roon started and is working as I type this. I have a call/remote connect with my network person coming up in an hour or two - he’s going to help me review.
