Describe the issue

I am currently running Roon server (version 2.0. Build 1483) on a Mac. When it tried to download software update, a message “There was an error checking for an update) came up. I tried multiple times including both the server and clients on my iPhone and iPad but same issue came up. Will appreciate advices to solve this. Thanks in advance.

Hello @Chester_Wong,

Thank you for reaching Roon support.

Thanks for reaching out! Based on the issue you’re encountering with checking for updates, it’s possible that the Mac Mini is having trouble connecting to the update server due to a network-related issue—potentially caused by your current router or switch setup.

To help isolate the problem, I recommend temporarily connecting your Mac Mini to a mobile hotspot. This will bypass your home network and allow us to see if the update can go through using a different internet connection.

If the update works over the hotspot, the issue is likely related to your router, switch, or DNS configuration. Let us know how it goes!

Sometimes this happens. In my case, simply downloading directly from the Roon website and reinstalling is the best solution.
