Error: Migrate Core from Old Mac Mini on 1.8 to new Mac Mini on 2.0

Roon Core Machine

Mac Mini (mid 2010) running RoonServer 1.8

Description of Issue

My old Mac mini can’t run Roon 2.0, so I got a new Mac mini 2023. Here’s what I did:

  1. Forced a backup on the Roon 1.8 on the old Mac mini
  2. Shut down RoonServer on Mac mini and all Roon clients
  3. Copied the backup directory to a USB drive
  4. Installed RoonServer 2.0 and Roon 2.0 on new Mac mini
  5. Connected Roon 2.0 application to RoonServer 2.0 running on the same machine
  6. Selected Restore from backup and then choose the latest backup from the USB drive
  7. Then I get an error “Could not create required lock file”

Am I doing something wrong?

It might have been because I was running Roon and RoonServer on the same machine (although that worked on 1.8), but in any case I resolved the issue by first migrating the core from the old Mac mini to the new Mac mini sticking with the 1.8 version. After 1.8 was running on the new Mac mini, I installed RoonServer 2.0 and connected with Roon client from a different machine. Seems to be working now.
