· I am attempting to backup my Roon on a flash drive connected to Nucleus One. I got an error message that says I got it wrong. I deleted the location and wish to recreate a back up folder that is correctly stated. Can you help me set it up properly?
It looks as though the flash drive can’t be opened - can you try reformatting it as exFAT on a PC or Mac?
And, personally, I would not use a flash drive for Roon Backups - Roon will write thousands of small files in a Backup, and a real USB drive (SSD or HDD) is better suited to this.
btw, per your suggestion, I ordered an hdd from Amazon, in the meantime, why doesnt Nucleus 1 recognize any external drive? I fear there is an electrical problem.
I did, after fiddling with disk utility…I erased and partitioned. Partitioning offered the exfat, and then it worked…thanks, everything works now. I have 7800 songs, with a 250gb usb flash drive. Do I really need to order a 1TB hdd or ssd?
Erm, just to be clear, Roon Backup does NOT backup any of your local music - it backs up the Roon database and settings only. You may already realise this, but your statement above prompted this response from me.
I’m clear; I am aware of the difference between the ssd in the Nucleus and the external drive’s backing up the Roon Database. As I am unknowledgeable of size needs, what size of external drive do I need when purchasing an SSD for the database backup? Thanks for your assistance.
I would like to clarify an important distinction regarding Roon backups.
Roon Backups save your library database—this includes your metadata edits, play history, playlists, and settings. They do not include your actual audio files (music tracks).
Because the database itself is relatively small (typically less than 1 GB), your 250 GB USB drive is more than sufficient for this purpose.
If you wish to back up your music files, you will need to perform that as a separate, manual procedure outside of Roon.
