I am using a Mcintosh C1100 preamp and Mcintosh MC462 amp and Paradigm Founder 102h speakers.
I bought an EverSolo DMP-A8 after reading good reviews. I tried all different settings and the music I streamed with Qobuz via Roon had no life to it. I didn’t feel like listening to it. So I boxed it up and returned it.
So I decided to try the DAC’s in my Oppo UDP-203. Well all I can say is WOW! (Best part is like FREE since I already use my UDP-203 for my 4K library)
The audio out of the Oppo was dynamic, great highs, mids and lows. It sounded a million times better than the EverSolo.
I’m not sure I understand this question. Are you asking other owners of the two devices to comment on their experiences. If so, that will probably be a very small pool of responders.
If not, then I’m not sure what the topic is that you are asking for opinions.
I have the DMP-A6 hooked up to a Yamaha A-S2200 via XLR in a 2.1 setup and it is the best setup that I have ever had. I hear things that I have never heard before. The detail and fidelity is really good whether thru Roon or Tidal connect.
The app is the same in both and is rated as one of the best. Like the A6 the A8 thru the app can be setup many different ways with regard to outputs and this can have a direct effect on the sound quality not to mention the source used along with a amp and speakers.
Having said that, for what I have read the DMP-A8 is a definite step up from the A6 in several ways and I have seen nothing but very good reviews about it.
I have the DMP-A8 and use it for a transport only and it sounds fine to me. I had a HiFi Rose RS130 and sold it since the app inferior as well as the Apple Music implementation. As a streamer transport, the A8 was close enough in sound to the RS130 that I didn’t need the Rose. I did try the DAC in the A8 and thought it sounded fine.
Had an Oppo UDP-203 and used the analogue out for 5.1 SACD. Oppo do make great sounding players. Only problem is they went out of business and will be difficult to get repaired. I sold both of my units and got top dollar for them. I miss listening to my 5.1 SACD and have an old dvd player with analogue out to play occasionally. I like the Eversolo since it can stream Apple Music natively. I also have a DMP-A6 gen 2 that I use as a transport and I’m happy with it since it’s only used occasionally.
I have not listened to it myself but I’ve read that the Eversolo is very clean and lean sounding. It’s a top notch product but If you want a warmer sound you should concider sometimething elese. like: Holo Audio, Métronome, Sugden, Lumin, Aqua Acoustic, Gold note.
I’m just reading this after doing some Google searches trying to find out if I will hear a difference between my current Oppo UDP-203 as a Roon end point connected to my Anthem AVM 90 via HDMI streaming Qobuz high res tracks (sounds GREAT) and an Eversolo DMP-A6 Gen 2 or the new Eversolo T8 transport.
I DO want to keep using the great DAC in the Anthem AVM 90 via HDMI (
ESS ES9038Pro).
So, did you try using the HDMI ports? If so, did you hear any differences?
Thanks.
If you want to use HDMI, you can only choose the DMP-A6 (the T8 doesn’t have a HDMI out) and here (advantage against the Oppo) you’re able to play multichannel sources upto 5.1 (PCM and DSD).
If you’re in stereo only, you will not here any differences between the Oppo and the eversolo, but with the eversolo you’ve a nice display and much more options than with the old Oppo player.
@Burkhardt_Petermann, thank you for your reply. So, since the new Eversolo T8’s HDMI out is only used to send audio via the I2S protocol, that won’t work with my Anthem AVM 90 unless I want to use the T8’s RCA out.
As you said, the DMP-A6 might be the better choice in my case.
