Eversolo T8 (Streamer)

  • Internal Clock: Includes an “ultra-precision femtosecond-grade master clock”.
  • Role: Functions as a transport, meaning it outputs a digital-only signal. Its clock is designed to ensure the digital signal sent to a DAC is as clean and accurate as possible.
  • Usage: It is designed to be used with an external DAC like the Z10. In a setup with both, the T8’s clock is used if connected via I2S, but the Z10’s clock is used if connected via USB.

This is what I came across on the web. The usage part is interesting. In a lot of reviews about these 2 connections, some favored one over the other but they all notice a difference between the two albeit slightly. This must be why.

Really happy with the T8 so far, going into a Denafrips Pontus II DAC.

I’ve tried i2s, AES/EBU and USB, and I really can’t tell the difference between the three.

Main thing with i2s is to make sure the i2s config on the T8 matches the DAC. I used the site below to get it sorted.

Interestingly, until I did that, the i2s sound quality was fine, but the soundstage was oddly compressed. Much wider and more impressive with USB or AES/EBU. Changed the settings on the T8 and now it’s all copacetic.

Lately I’ve been listening via USB (so it’s using the DAC’s clock) and I’ve been really happy with the sound.

I plan to run i2s between the Eversolo T8 and the Denafrips Terminator Plus.

I plan to run USB between the Auralic Aries G2 and the Denafrips Terminator Plus.

I concurrently loaded Apple Music for the SONOS and the T8.

All are wired accordingly but despite having the T8 for almost two days, I have not powered it on.

I assume that you and I would use the same i2s setting on the T8

Pontus is set to default 000.

T8 was set to mode 1 by default, and once i changed it to mode 5, the heavens opened up

Thank you. At 10pm last night, I ordered a short(er) HDMI cable from Amazon. It came at 5am this morning. Wondering what HDMI cable you used. Cables labeled i2s abound on Amazon with one school saying that there is no difference among HDMI cables. Others debate that contention. I was impressed by the Apple-like packaging of the T8. Quite a contrast between that and the packaging of the Auralic. I suspect that I shall use the App and set aside the remote (also very nice); at least it came with one.

My Z-10 Dac arrived yesterday and my T8 Streamer shipped today.

That’s exciting, That DAC is great and wonderful combination with the T8.

You can use the T8 to calibrate your room. Eversolo sells a microphone for $70, but I do not know into what the mic is plugged. I assume it is preferable to using an iPhone as the mic.

I have a MiniDSP - UMIK-1 mic that I used for the DMP-A6.

The process was easy and simple but I was not impressed with the results.

I’m hoping that it will make a difference this time.

Oy, I was hoping for a marked difference. My roon is problematic

I used a phone as a mic on a Wiim Plus and there was a noticeable improvement.

It was at my son’s house.

Not so much a difference on the A6 with a mic. I have a new room with nothing on the walls. I think that is my problem.

I am putting the WiiM Plus in the home theater, but I would think a microphone into a computer would produce better results, but…

HDMI/i2s cable is a Wireworld Platinum Starlight 7

AES/EBU is a Kimber Select KS2120

USB is an AudioQuest Carbon

Do not know if this true but I read somewhere that a I2S cable should be very short like 2 feet.

While HDMI can work, it is hard to find a 2 footer.

The longest I2S cable that I have come across is 2 feet.

By no means do I know this to be correct about the lenght. Maybe someone else would know more about I2S specs.

Did your T8 arrive?

I have had time to power ours up and go through menus. I have it attached to the DAC via i2s, but I have had time to register Qobuz and Apple Music but not had time to play Qobuz over it.

It is suppose to be here next Thursday. The last update on UPS is 2 days old.

A femtosecond (fs) is an incredibly short unit of time, equal to one quadrillionth (10⁻¹⁵) of a second

I’m quite sure, in fact I’m 100% positive, that every equipment reviewer for both the Absolute Sound and Sterophile can easily hear femtosecond based jitter. After all that’s what “golden ears” means. Just another reason why the entire world laughs at audiophiles, as well they should.
