Thoughts on Eversolo a6 with a good Dac. I had the Lumin u2 mini with Denafrips ares15th and was really good. Also have at the moment the Lumin p1 mini which sounds good but not as good as the Denafrips lumin combo. The Eversolo has great features and was thinking if i get a Denafrips Pontus 15th with the a6 that should be killer combo. Or is the lumin streamer that much better.
My meaning: It makes not really a difference in the sound, if you use as streamer a Lumin U2 mini, a RPi or an Eversolo DMP-A6 with an external DAC, which has a galvanic isolated USB in.
I’m owning a lot of different streamers (also two Eversolos or formerly Lumin U1 mini and T2).
The T2 (with it’s own DAC) was ok, but not total satisfying me.
My current main streaming system is the Holo Audio Red with the Holo Audio May, primarily used with HQPlayer/Roon, which was a real step forward in compare e.g. to the Lumin.
But what’s to note:
- Lumin had always a real stable firmware and a great support with Peter
- Eversolo’s build quality (DMP-A6) is ok, but Lumin’s is superior
- Eversolo has some bugs (e.g. in Qobuz connect, lical playlists,…), but the crew is working on it
- The display is nice in the first moment, but to small, if you are not sitting nearby. I’m using also two Audio Rose streamers (RS250 and RS150). The RS150 has a much bigger and better display (big enough for 3 meters away), than the Eversolo, but if you want to use the streamer not only for Roon, then I can’t recommend a Rose device.

I seem to remember that the Rose devices can have resolution limits on pass through to another DAC with DSD, including not playing native DSD.
That’s not true anymore.
My both Rose devices working fine with native DSD512 through USB out.

I could live with no display really. I have no need for it. Plus all that light just bothers me. Thanks for your input.
Good to know. Since, it also will depend upon the DAC, of course. What DAC are you using?
For my two Hifi Rose devices, a Holo Audio Cyan 2 and a Cayin iDAC-6 MK2.
The Holo Audio works here with native DSD512, the Cayin with DoP DSD256.
Without display, you can also use a simple RPi with Ropieee or (better measurement on USB out) something like the Holo Audio Red.
The DMP-A6 has the advantage, that you can use the HDMI out for multichannel (DSD and PCM) with Roon and there are lot of other options outside from Roon, because you can install on it many apps.
