Will this work as a ROCK core? The specs look on par with Nucleus +.
The link points to a search result page, not an individual device, so it is hard to tell what you mean.
But all I can see here are Mini PCs, not NUCs. A NUC is a specific type of mini PC from Intel. ROCK may well work (or not) on generic Mini PCs, but this is not an officially supported platform.
The official liist of supported NUCs for ROCK is here:
I posted captured images instead. The hardware uses intel processors and standard memory, so I guess my question is whether these are equivalent to Intel NUC. Or do they use different motherboard?
If you want to be sure it will work, you need to buy a supported Intel NUC.
Depending on hardware and bios other machines may work, but you can’t be sure. You also can’t be sure that a roon update might break something.
That said many people are running what are know as MOCKs - ROCK running on unsupported hardware.
A computer does not just consist of CPU and memory but a lot of other stuff that all require drivers in the operating system, and ROCK only is tested with the stuff that is in Intel NUCs. A generic Mini PC may well work but 1) the only way to know is to try and 2) even if it works now it can stop working at any time.
Plus, strictly speaking you might not get official support in the forum’s Support channel.
From the link I posted:
Thanks. I wonder what Roon is planning, now that NUC is being discontinued…
