Indeed. I shipped the M17 back a few days ago. I’m more than happy with the sound quality of the M11 for a portable, pocketable DAP. Absolutely love the M11.
This thread is killing me. I currently have the FiiO M11Plus Music Player along with a SanDisk 1TB Ultra microSDXC UHS-I Memory Card, a Soft TPU Clear Crystal Full Protective Skin Shell Case Cover and a Balanced 4.4mm Male to 4-pin XLR Female Headphone Adapter Cable all sitting in my Amazon cart (grand total of just under $800) waiting for me to press “buy”. What is holding me back is the wonderful Focal Bathys headphones that I use on my regular long walks about town. The Bathys have a USB DAC mode which allows me to stream music from Qobuz, Tidal or Roon ARC in full CD and high resolution via an OTG cable. I also have a Sony NW-A45 DAP which I use when WiFi or cell data isn’t available. I also have several different desktop headphone amps and many different sets of headphones, all of which work and sound great.
But the Fiio M11 s just so tempting…
I’m thinking that the “buy” button will be pressed sooner rather than later.
And thanks for the all the very useful information! Here’s a quick question: can convolution filters be used with the Fiio Roon app?
That’s quite a cart you’ve got going!
The FiiO Roon app turns the M11 into a fully functioning Roon Ready endpoint. This means that you can do whatever you like with DSP filters, including convolution, just like you would for any other Roon Ready endpoint.
I have that TPU case you mention. It’s not bad. Considering that all of this is coming from Amazon, it’s low risk.
Good luck with your decision making!
Thanks for the information on the DSP filters, kind of what I was thinking but it’s nice to have confirmation. My decision is less about the money and more about how to explain the purchase to my better half. Any suggestions?
Decades worth. How much time do you have and how many suggestions do you need? In a pinch, “This is an investment in my mental health” seems to work reasonably well
That case really is just ok. I’m not a fan of leather cases, like the included case. The TPU case you’re looking at has the exact name as what I’ve got, so I assume it’s the same. It’s blocky and the transport buttons are covered and a bit hard to press. It is protective, though, and doesn’t add a ton of bulk.
Investment in my mental health was absolutely my reasoning for buying the M11. I have gotten so much enjoyment out of it that it’s already worth the money after only 6 weeks.
Mee to But I am waiting until this problem is solved:
Have a nice WE

Well I just had a brief session with my RME ADI 2 which was my dining room setup, I’m back on the M11 Plus after half an album it can’t compare at all. Much cleaner presentation on the M11 Plus. RME feels to have more bloated bass. Wether this is down to it being attached to my core I can’t say as I have had its on a pi as well and going between the two never made a difference. So that’s it I’m officially off my other head rigs and one setup main for phones except ARC when commuting and at work as I just use my iPhone as it’s less to carry and I only use BT, quality isn’t important commuting. M11 will be only used for longer trips away from home and internally for now at least.
Sorry @Jazzfan_NJ if this pushes you nearer the edge.
I was on the edge and just needed a little push. As I was falling I still managed to click on the “buy” button. Ordered from Amazon (US) and in order to avoid having to deal with my significant other I’m having the order delivered to local Amazon pickup site. Since my wife and I are going to Singapore in March I figured that the M11 would be put to good use.
Besides the M11 I also ordered an XLR to 4.4mm adapter cable, a 1TB microSD card and a red soft silicone cover. Everything should be ready for pick up this Wednesday. I will report back upon delivery but after set up. Thanks again for all the pushes
Hope it doesnt cause your relationship any pressure.
Hopefully the stealth pick up will ease the pressure since I have so many audio toys that my wife won’t notice until it’s old news.
I kind of did the same, i ordered mine whilst sick with Covid, she was out when it was delivered. She hasnt even noticed I dismanled my headrig in the bedroom which was taking a lot of space on my bedside table. I think shes immune to me these days. But I dont buy as much kit as I used to first bit I have bought in 2.5 years.
Congratulations, @Jazzfan_NJ! Chances are very good that you’ll love this player. Is the link below the case you bought? If so, it doesn’t look right - the left side is completely wrong. If it’s not what you ordered, can you paste a link to what you’re getting?
That ones for the old M11 and M11 Pron wont fit at all.
All it does is run the Fiio app and nothing else, they say less is more but juries out in regards to this.
It’s great to hear that you’re still enjoying it and that it’s holding up as well as it is against your other gear.
My use is very close to yours. It’s a mobile Roon endpoint around the house. Desk, couch, reading in bed, brushing my teeth. It’s very pocketable and portable. Outside the house, I use an iPhone and AirPods Pros with ARC or other apps.
The aspect of this I love the most is that fact that it illustrates that devices in this category can be great Roon endpoints. The Chord Poly had me worried that this kind of thing was just never going to work given the characteristics of RAAT. What’s clear with these FiiO devices is that Roon, FiiO or both cracked the code - these things can maintain flawless connectivity as you move around. Just put them on a decent home WiFi and go. That’s exciting.
Yep loving it, it works well across all my iems and phones, it does need to be on high gain and about 67 for the Elears but I am only using 3.5mm for those as I dont have another balanced cable currently so using the 6.3mm with an adaptor. I am over budget at moment so cant get any more cables or the Meze and Sennheiser Momentum 4 that I want for ARC for a while yet.
I do worry for my battery life given I am using it so much, need to balance it out a bit with some speaker listening, but as I hardly get time alone in the main room its just not easy, its why I had 2 headrigs in the first place.
Yep that’s exactly the one I ordered and thanks for the heads up. Since I will be picking everything up at a main Amazon distribution center, I guess I will just tell them to take it back. Kind of bummed since I like silicone cases.
