Oh boy, the software needs some work but it works with Roon with no headaches and oh my!!! this thing sounds lovely and trumps the SR11 and RME ADI 2 DAC FS it was to replace. Not for those that want polished app experiences but hey Sound and Music is the first priority.
Not sure I like the Bling of the lights so thats all off and Display has issues they need to work out. But I dont care too much as my backs to it most of the time. I wanted a device with inbuilt EQ with more bands than the RME, Balanced out, SPDIF for my CD player, Roon Ready, 12V trigger for my amp, and lots of app support.
I’ve kept it as it sounds great. Software needs some work yet and it’s not fully RR and their remote control app which is essentially a screen share is rudimentary. For stuff like Roon this isn’t needed as it’s all via Roons app. I installed PlexAmp as that is controllable via their app to, Neutron Player for UPnP and use it via LMS using the UPnP Bridge. Also have an app to auto start the FiiO Roon app and a few others on power up. As long as you can ignore the niggles of the software which I hope will be ironed out it’s a great unit. But if you don’t like Android Os I would avoid as it’s not as customised as Eversolo.
I was looking at the Eversolo DMP-A6 Master edition for a long time but they restrict apps to their own white listed list. What appeals on the FiiO is that it has a wider range of apps you can install, a linear power supply and uses the AKM chipset which I prefer to the ESS found in the Eversolo. The only gripe I can see on the FiiO is their decision to put the USB DAC connection on the front which isn’t ideal for me. However, it uses the same chipset as my current stand alone DAC so I’m hoping it can replace that so the front port wouldn’t matter so much.
Dont care about that myself I bought it to be a preamp and not to use an external DAC. To me its as good if not marginally preferable to the RME DAC I have which it has replaced.
Just got my fiio s15 in today. Software is of course buggy and very premature for sure. I’m using with Roon and realized that for some reason it is detected by Roon as a Fiio R7 and shows the output as headphones. I have this streamer setup via i2s into a Gustard R26 dac into my Mcintosh MA8950. (Using IIS as the connection is at least on the back) and I had a solid core audioquest hdmi cable. Anyone else showing Roon misidentifying the Fiio?
It’s not Roon Ready yet they say that on their site. But they seem to cheat until it is identifying it as another model that is. They did this on the SR11 I also have. It’s a tad naughty but works but can be a bit flakey until the full certification arrives.
