File recovery of playlists from NUC after hard drive failure (ref#YC5F59)

What’s happening?

Describe the issue

Hard drive on my headless NUC roon server died and I would like to know the name of the files that contain saved playlist information so that I can potentially recover those when I install my new Nucleus

Describe your network setup

To further clarify, I purchased a new Nucleus One to replace my old NUC server that hard a hard drive failure. I’m hoping I can recover either backup files or at least playlists that were saved on my old roon server. The hard drive in the old server is corrupted, but if I can send it to a recovery service I’d like to know if there are specific file names I should have them pull in hopes to recover my saved data from years of using roon.

Hello @Christian_Butler,

Thank you for reaching out to Roon Support.

To recover the files from your old Nucleus, you’ll need to retrieve the Database or backup folders located under:
/roon/data/RoonServer/Database.

or whenever your Database backups were configured.

Please note that restoring data from a corrupted drive may result in latent corruption later on. Since your installation failed with the “Can’t load your database” message, we do not recommend restoring the database from that drive.

Also, for your information — if the main drive has failed, there’s no need to purchase a new Nucleus. You can simply replace the M.2 drive, install ROCK on it, and then reach out to us to have the Nucleus OS installed via an RMA request.

Lastly, we strongly recommend creating regular backups outside of your Nucleus — for example, to Dropbox or another computer on your local network to avoid such situations in future.

Thank you for the response. The previous server was a NUC headless computer and I’m now upgrading to a Nucleus. I could replace the original hard drive on the NUC but decided it was time to upgrade. Hopefully I can recover the backup files from the old drive and I’ve learned my lesson about not keeping backups on the cloud in addition to the drive.
