Focal by Naim MU-So Hekla

Hi Folks, hope all is great!

Big question, will you guys make the Mu-So Hekla (not a) Soundbar Roon Ready. Currently I can stream via Chromecast but you know…

Thx in advance!

J

It is up to the manufacturer to pursue and implement Roon Ready, so you will have to contact them.

As all other Naim products are Roon Ready, and the regular Mu-so v2 is as well, I’d guess that chances are not zero.

I’m doubting it, but who knows ….?

All the Naim Mu-so 2nd generation devices (Mu-so 2, Mu-so Qb2) are Roon Ready out of the box. Given the Hekla is based on the Mu-so I would think if they intended it to be a Roon endpoint they would have done so on launch. Maybe they just aren’t positioning it that way.

Yeah, that’s my guess… it is a totally brand new product “Focal by Naim” so let’s see and wait…!

On the other hand it’s been out since November and on the Naim forum there are some doubts about whether it will be Roon Ready because of taking away from Naim’s proprietary multi-room capabilities. I think this would be very silly in a family of products that are Roon Ready already, and it would guarantee that I, for one, despite being deeply invested in Naim gear, would never buy it if I needed a sound bar (which I don’t, though), so I guess the only thing that can be done is letting Naim/Focal know.

Already posted in the product topic. Sometimes things take time. For example, the Marantz AV10 took more than a year to be Roon Ready…. hope this is not the case.

Regrading your comment about not getting if you need a soundbar: I have the Ambeo Max and the SQ is much much better on the Hekla. The bass response I simply insane… you have to dial it down several notches…. and have it connected to a couple of Definitive Prosub 10” subs! It does sound really really good.

I have a Naim 252/SCDR, NDX2/555DR, 300DR, and 30k speakers, no need for a sound bar of any kind

Yeah but at Naim the RR is not a new thing, so I would think they have it ready from the start (as they did for all streamers for a long time) if they wanted to. But who knows

Naim‘s approach to Roon Ready seems a bit inconsistent in my view. Many of their products are Roon Ready but when I asked about their CI102 a while ago, they confirmed there are plans for Roon certification. So if a product is not certified at launch, I would assume it will not happen in the future either.

So, spoke with one of the tech guys at Naim or focal or Naim focal.

They don’t have a road map for Roon Ready with the Hekla, no info if or when they will implement it. He guided me through steps to use upnp with the Naim app in order to access my music files… which is exactly what i didn’t what to do as upnp is so slow and unfriendly.

Guess this may never happen….

Stupid. If this is a desperate attempt to lock people into their proprietary multiroom system (and very average app), many people won’t spend several 10k (at least). Glad I have an NDX-2 with proper Roon support

Exactly the same as B&W did with their horribly, no responsive, boringly designed app and the Zeppelins.
