Focus on ('X Most Played' && Genre) Not Working

Describe your network setup

Server: Roon for NAS on Synology ds923+
Client: Roon on Windows 10 PC
Build: Roon v2 (build 1462) Production

Hmm, not a fan of the new support process! It didn’t allow me to upload multiple images, or make it clear where to describe the problem!

Screenshot above shows 21 albums as my top 25. This would only make sense if I have only 21 electronic albums that I had played.

Compare and contrast with the top 50 (see screenshot) which shows 43 albums! The top 25 electronic albums should be the top 25 of the 43! Not to mention that I have played more than just 50 electronic music albums.

Sounds like what you want to see is your 25 most played electronic albums. Roon’s Focus isn’t doing that. It is displaying the electronic albums that are in your 25 most played (regardless of genre). I don’t think you can do what you want but maybe someone has a hack. I would be interested as well.

From your screen shots you are ordering your albums by most played. It isn’t what you want to do but my donkey work-around is to switch off the 25 most played or 50 most played filters. Then the top 25 or 50 albums in the display should be your top 25 and top 50 electronic albums respectively.

Hi @moralcrusader,

Please specify the cross-section of your library that you’re attempting to narrow down with Focus.

The two filters you’ve added currently, 50 Most Played and Electronic, are functioning independently. One filter will limit the current view to only the 25 or 50 albums with the most recorded plays in your Roon database. The second filter will limit the current view to only Albums with Electronic assigned in the metadata genre field. The sort function is ordering the view of these albums by recorded play count.

As @tripleCrotchet mentioned, this isn’t an airtight filter, but simply applying the Electronic Focus Filter and then sorting by Most Played will allow you to Select → Export the top 25 items for curatorial or playlist purposes.

Thank you both! I hadn’t quite appreciated the way focus was working. It’s perhaps not completely intuitive given that the first filter (when you open Focus) is by Genre but I understand what it’s doing. I can certainly sort albums by most played to achieve the desired result, so in that respect I am happy.

Great we’re glad that we were able to clear things up for you. I’m going to mark this thread as solved.
