I have noticed recently that files are not being added to Roon when I add files to the hard drive unless I do a manual “force rescan”. I’m not sure when this started.
It’s a strange one.
As @Simon_Arnold3 said I have seen it a couple of times and fixed by a reboot and also always when using a Synology NAS for storage.
Would your drive be formatted NTFS?
Just there has been some strange behavior with Rock and NTFS formatted drives.
Can’t see how network would affect a locally attached drive, if on a NAS maybe. As @Michael_Harris has pointed out what file system format is the drive formatted as?
It’s very weird and since others don’t appear to have the issue, I’m going to experiment around with using a different drive or format (it’s formatted ExFAT). For now, everything is working well with the core on a Mac mini, so I may just stick with that.
As we know, Roon OS creates the smb://rock/data share by default and that share includes a path to the external/internal media where the music library is located.
It’s a pretty simple mistake to make in a configuration to point to that SMB mount point when (re)configuring Roon. I made that mistake and was left with the exact symptoms that the OP is describing here.
Of course the correct configuration would be to point to “Rock->Data->Storage->InternalStorage”
However, Ron confirmed that’s not what is going on here.
I have this problem with a 14TB USB-attached hard drive with a SonicTransporter. I’ve given up troubleshooting and just use the Force Rescan option in Settings.
