Does the issue happen with local library music, streaming service music, or both?
· *Both streaming and local* *library* music are affected.
Do you encounter any playback errors with the "System Output" Zone?
· The System Output has the same problem as my other Zone.
Is your RoonServer machine running MacOS 15 Sequoia or above?
· I still can't see my endpoints as available Zones.
Do you have a complex network setup?
· Both the device and RoonServer are connecting to a *single router*
Please try rebooting your router.
· No, I'm still having trouble
Do you have an approximate timestamp of when the issue last occurred?
· happened about 50 times today, every couple minutes
What are the make and model of the affected audio device(s) and the connection type?
· every playback device was tested and they all fail
Describe the issue
Roon app keeps failing constantly. I can't even play through one single song before it fails and says waiting to connect to server. Using Roon app on windows 11 PC, all devices are ethernet connected. I updated windows and uninstalled/reinstalled Roon to no avail. Restarted server and router multiple times. I can't listen to music it keeps disconnecting from my Nucleus One server
Describe your network setup
Netgear RAX45 router, unmanaged network switches, Roon Nucleus One server with internal SSD drive, nothing is on wireless, all wired connections
Thank you for your post. We can see RoonServer restarting at odd intervals during playback, which is usually a sign of unmanaged crashing. These events cause all Roon controllers to temporarily lose sight of RoonServer until the network interface is back online.
Connection reset events occur independently throughout logs - the Nighthawk router might be actively scheduling packets (disable any QoS rules for now) or blocking mDNS announcements (enable multicast forwarding/IGMP snooping).
After performing these steps, I recommend reinstalling RoonServer from the Nucleus Web Administration Page directly. Double-check that Roon.exe and related processes are exceptions in your Windows Defender firewall on the PC, for due diligence.
I uploaded my database. QOS rules were already always disabled so no change there. There are no settings for mDNS announcements, multicast forwarding or IGMP snooping in my router so I’ve no idea what you’re talking about there but I doubt its relevant because this is a new issue and there haven’t been any networking changes to my setup since I first got the Roon server.
I have been using Roon today for a few hours and the issue does not appear to be happening.
I tried a few things last week to help the issue and I wonder if the error logs support this thought - but I had put a 10 hour long track in my roon library (binaural beats, background non-distracting music for long focus sessions). I wonder if Roon was attempting to do the audio processing on this file, and if that was taking up too much system resources causing the crash. The steps I took to fix this issue were two-fold, I removed the track from my roon server entirely (its a 192kbps MP3, so there’s no need for this to be part of Roon I’m happy to just play this from VLC media player or other on my PC when I want to have a long focus session) and I also changed my Roon background audio analysis and on-demand audio analysis settings back to ‘throttled’. My thinking was that with these settings set to ‘fast’ or multi-core and the large audio file in there, it may have been using up to much system resources causing the failures.
I will keep testing the system today and tomorrow - fingers crossed the issue does not repeat.
FYI - the database file I uploaded was after I removed this 10 hour long audio file from the server, so you may not see this appear in the db.
