Genelec G Three - DAC recommendations

In my office, I have two Genelec G Three connected to a WiiM Pro Plus. This works quite OK, especially with the WiiM’s room correction.

Anyway, perfect being the enemy of good: Can anybody recommend a ‘better’ DAC to use? Theoretically a USB DAC would also work, as the speakers are only about 5m away from ROCK.

You could use darn near anything. What’s your budget? Are you interested in using the balanced (XLR) inputs?

What DACs are you already familiar with? What do you like / dislike about them?

If you want a streamer DAC I like the Matrix stuff. If you just want a DAC I like Schiit on the budget side and my DAC200 on the not so budget side.

Also… you’ll either need something with a pre )volume control) or get a pre as well since your Wiim is also acting as a pre… although you could continue to use the digital volume control in the Wiim if you keep it as streamer.

Personally I like MiniDSP, and have used the SHD with G series speakers and F series sub. This allows XLR outputs for the speakers and LFE output for the sub, with crossover configured on the MiniDSP. Just a thought!

I’m very happy with an RME ADI-2 DAC with my 8030c - perhaps a key attraction, other than the general build quality and support, is the Loudness function for lower level listening.

I should say that I compared the SQ with that of the Wiim Pro Plus (which I keep as a streamer) and noticeably preferred the RME. You can also use natty tools with it like RooADI if you’re that way inclined.

WiiM Ultra?

I’ve got one and love it, but haven’t compared it sonically to the other three WiiM streamers yet (not had time).
