What is the specific router model you’re using? We can likely find a manual online to help guide you through next steps:
You’ll want to open your network settings, usually through opening the webUI through your internet browser. From there, you’ll be able to take a more detailed look at all of your devices across your network.
You may have the option to disable certain settings as well, but we’ll need the specific router information before taking any direct next steps.
Just to provide proper expectations here, running your core device over wifi will likely lead to continued performance issues in the future. While a hardwired connection isn’t technically required, it is heavily suggested. I’d give our best practices article a read for more information:
Yes I can open the router settings through my internet browser, I can send you screenshots of all the segttings in english if you’d like, so you can tell me what to do.
Also, any news about the Roon Radio issue? Today I tried to install Roon again to solve this but nothing changed. When I unistalled Roon I noticed, when going to AppData/Local folder, that, while Roon folder was gone, RAATServer folder was still there, so I tried to manually deleting that folder too, before installing Roon again. Hope it was not a mistake.
Starting Roon Radio from a genre was my primary use of Roon. (it still gives the “Nothing similar found” message as in the picture I sent you in my previous message, and then Roon Radio proceeds to use library only music even when they are not relevant, and the same thing happens in ARC).
I’m eager to resolve this. I’ve been unable to do this for almost 2 weeks. I don’t know what happened, since it worked before.
If you haven’t yet, perhaps a factory reset of your router settings may prove helpful in this case - unless you have any custom settings currently enabled.
I’d like to confirm that this issue isn’t being caused by your devices getting confused with dual subnets being active, so the main thing I’d like to try and accomplish would be to eliminate the 192.168.56.1 subnet from your local network as the next test.
Another thing to test would be to set your Roon devices all on the same Wi-Fi band, either the 2.4GHz or 5GHz channel.
Thank you, I will try to do these things when I come back to the place where I have that router, on Monday. To clear confusions: as I said I move around a lot, and the screenshots I sent you previously of my router settings with the IP addresses of my laptop and phone are taken from the router I use most of the time, as it’s the place where I am most of the year.
I’m writing you this because I’m currently at another place, only for the weekend.
So I was curious to see how things would go with this other router to hopefully give you helpful informations: and to my delight Roon Radio from genres is working here; it has the same problems of producing blank spaces in my Played Section, when I start Roon Radio of a genre from ARC. But at least I can use Roon Radio from genres again, at least this weekend. So I thought It would be helpful to go into the router settings and screenshotting the IP addresses of my laptop (in the screenshot named “Riky”) and my phone (in the screenshot “A54 di Riccardo”). I noticed that, like in the other router settings (the one I previously sent you screenshots of, my “main router”), here too my laptop and phone are showing different IP addresses.
PS: that “android…” device in the screenshot is another phone connected to the router’s WIFI, ignore that, as It’s an old phone nobody uses, but at the time of the screenshot was connected to the WIFI so it shows up.
While, if you go back to the screenshot I sent you previously of how i set up my port forwarding in my other router, you notice I put different numbers for the ports: could that be the problem? What numbers should I put to to do in the correct way? Do they need to be the same numbers or doesn’t matter? ARC for me works in both routers.
Anyway, as I said, when on Monday I go back to my main router, I’ll try to do the steps you told me to do. In the meantime, I thought to inform you of these observations, since I had the chance to try things out with a different router.
I did a reset of the router, Roon Radio works again now, even from genres, which is great.
The other issues are still present (blank spaces on the Played Section in my home, and the discrepancy between Roon WIndows and ARC in some genres like I showed in the first messages of this thread).
After the router reset, the IP addresses of my laptop and my phone changed and are now these: (as always “Riky” is my laptop and “A54” is my phone)
There are 2 other devices (not related to Roon, so I didn’t screenshot them) from other 2 people in the house connected which have these IP adresses: one 192.168.1.50 and the other 192.168.1.52. So all devices connected to the router’s Wi-Fi have all different IPs and are all in sequence.
About those other issues should I set all devices on the same Wi-Fi band as you wrote above? Or was this one for the Roon Radio issue?
Waiting for your feedback on next steps to take.
Thanks!
Thanks for the update! I’m glad to hear a router reset helped - that tells us that this issue is likely an odd result of network restrictions.
It certainly wouldn’t hurt to give this a try.
A fresh timestamp (date, time) and track playing which results in the blank spaces of when this issue occurs next would be helpful for us review a fresh core diagnostic.
Started Roon Radio from ARC from the genre POP/ROCK. In the Played section of my home page in Roon Windows it immediately appears a blank space.
Date: 8 November 2023
Time: 18:00
Song: Mining For Gold - Cowboy Junkies
After setting the wifi at 2,4 GHz:
Started Roon Radio from ARC from the genre JAZZ. Also with this setting, in the Played section of my home page in Roon Windows it immediately appears another blank space.
Date: 8 November 2023
Time: 18:25
Song: Beutiful Life - Chantal Chamberland
And what happens if you temporarily disable your Windows firewall completely? Does the issue persist? A fresh diagnostic review points at 404s when trying to sync with Roons API on album images.
Yes the issue persists. I currently have Windows Firewall disabled and I still get the blank spaces. I’ll do it again now in case it’s useful for you to have a timestamp:
Started Roon Radio in ARC from R&B
Date: 10 November 2023
Time: 9:47 AM
Song: Starboy - The Weekend
Please let me know if your issue persists after the most recent update reaches your server and remotes. This process is slowly rolling out over the next day or two. You’re looking for Build 1353 on your server and 1352 on your mobile devices.
I just updated everything and made some tests and the issue persists.
By the way, after the update I checked if all Roon apps were still added as exception to Windows firewall and I noticed that there are 3 raatserver.exe, 2 roon.exe and 1 roonappliance.exe. Is this normal? I’ll attach a screenshot below.
Also before this update, when you asked me to check if roon.exe and raatserver.exe were added as exceptions, also then I noticed I had 2 raatserver.exe and 2 roon.exe. Now there is one more raatserver.exe making them 3.
Oh also I forgot to mention that I noticed that when I am in ARC and start Roon Radio from any artist page (not the play now button, the proper roon radio one) it plays that artist’s songs only. In ARC this way to start Roon Radio is the only one that doesn’t work: if I start Roon Radio from a song or an album it works; if I start it from a genre page it works, but it produces those blank spaces of the issue we are addressing.
In Roon windows it all works good. It’s just in ARC, so I thought it could be helpful to inform you of this, since we are already addressing an ARC Roon Radio issue.
Another update:
I noticed that if in my Roon Windows app music is playing and, while it’s playing, I go into ARC and start Roon Radio from a genre the blank spaces in my played section of Roon Windows app don’t appear.
But turns out that they do appear later on.
I’ll explain when they reappear: when I stop playing music in Roon Widnows app and in ARC I start another Roon Radio from a genre, both the blank space of the previous ARC Roon Radio I started before (whose blank space didn’t appear before, when in Windows app music was playing) and the blank space of this other ARC genre Roon Radio I just started now when in Windows there is no music playing, appear in the played section of the Roon Windows app. So, also that blank space that didn’t appear before comes back.
So, even if at first, when in the Windows app music is playing, the issue doesn’t seem to exist, it turns out that after this scenario ends, the blank spaces come back, and they come back in the right places (of the played section) too, as if Roon is getting the information that I played Roon Radio from a genre in ARC only when Windows app is not playing music and while there is no playback going on I start another ARC genre Ronn Radio.
Please make sure you only have one instance of raatserver.exe, roon.exe and roonappliance.exe within your firewall.
Outside of that, the best next step would be to completely simplify your network setup. Start with your router and server with a direct hardwire connection, and slowly add gear back until the issue appears again.
Unfortunately, your Roon Server logs aren’t pointing to any clues as to why this may be happening.
You have my apologies for how long-standing this issue has been.
How can I do this?
In AppData in windows11 I’m only seeing one folder for each: RAATServer, Roon, RoonGoer, RoonServer.
And in the Windows firewall page where I see those duplicates I can’t find how to get rid of those.
_
In the meantime, can I ask you about the other issues I described at the beginning of this thread?
Aside from the blank spaces popping up, I had these other 2 issues:
Seeing recommended albums and artists in some genres pages in ARC, while on those same genres page in Windows app I don’t see (almost) anything (as in the screenshots at the beginning of this thread);
Being able to start Roon Radio from any genre in ARC even if I don’t have any song/album from those genres in my library, while in Windows app I can’t start Roon Radio from genres pages (play now button is not clickable and so I can’t start Roon Radio) where I don’t have anything in my library (as I mentioned before I love exploring new genres so it happens a lot that I don’t have any song/album in library from those genres and therefore I can’t start Roon Radio from those genres, and what I’m obliged to do is to use my phone with ARC to do that) (also for this issues I had attached screenshots at the beginning of this thread);
